Rutherford County Government is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Assistant County Engineer – Stormwater to help lead and manage critical stormwater initiatives that protect our community, infrastructure, and environment.
In this role, you'll play a key part in ensuring compliance with the Clean Water Act and the NPDES Phase II Permit, while supporting the County's Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) program. Key responsibilities include:
- Administer and enhance the County's Stormwater Management Program
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
- Prepare and submit annual reports to the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation
- Review site plans, construction drawings, and engineering submittals
- Oversee inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial construction sites
- Enforce Best Management Practices (BMPs) and stormwater regulations
- Supervise, mentor, and support engineering and inspection staff
- Coordinate with County leadership, committees, and external agencies
- Provide technical expertise to elected officials and departments
- Assist with floodplain administration and compliance with the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the National Flood Insurance Program
- Investigate drainage issues and develop engineering solutions
- Maintain GIS-based stormwater mapping and data systems
- Develop and lead community education programs on stormwater quality
- Respond to public inquiries and resolve stormwater-related concern
