Position Details
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Handles the watering, cutting, planting/establishing, or weeding research trials on research farms and in greenhouses.
- Assists in establishment of breeding trials, plant tissue collection or harvest, seed harvest/isolation/preparation/threshing and weighing.
- Develops and utilizes various plant propagation techniques.
- Assists PI or researchers in data collection and analysis.

- High school/vocational school education or equivalent experience.
- Ability to work in a team environment and/or ability to work independently or with minimal supervision once trained is essential.
- Interest in/academic exposure to/knowledge of Plant Biology, Plant Breeding, or related discipline.
- Experience working with plant care, or in an agricultural field, or farm setting.
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions (rainy, windy, and/or cold temperatures) is a must.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
- Work week is typically a 40 hours per week from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for up to 6 months of consecutive service.
- Position may require some weekend work.

Under Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals, if employment will commence during Flu Season, Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Additional infection control and safety policies may apply.
