Senior Accountant and Internal Controls Analyst

Russell Transport, Inc
Scottsdale, AZ Full Time
POSTED ON 9/26/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 10/25/2026

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant and Internal Controls Analyst to support ownership across a diversified group of privately held companies operating in transportation, logistics, financial services, equipment leasing, and commercial real estate.

This is not a traditional transactional accounting position. The role will provide independent financial review, accounting support, internal-control testing, and special-project assistance directly to ownership.

The successful candidate will be comfortable reviewing work prepared by Controllers and accounting teams, identifying discrepancies, investigating unusual transactions, preparing independent financial analysis, and ensuring that financial information provided to ownership is complete and accurate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review monthly financial statements and supporting schedules for accuracy and completeness.
  • Perform independent reviews of balance-sheet reconciliations and significant general-ledger accounts.
  • Review journal entries, accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, intercompany transactions, and other accounting activity.
  • Perform periodic audits and testing of work completed by Controllers and accounting personnel.
  • Identify accounting discrepancies, unusual transactions, control deficiencies, and areas requiring further investigation.
  • Independently investigate discrepancies and report findings directly to ownership.
  • Assist with the preparation and review of financial statements for the real-estate entities.
  • Review bank, debt, escrow, intercompany, and other significant reconciliations.
  • Review accounting across multiple related entities and help ensure transactions are recorded in the appropriate company and period.
  • Perform internal-control testing and recommend improvements to accounting procedures and controls.
  • Conduct ad hoc financial and operational audits requested by ownership.
  • Assist ownership with financial analysis, special projects, acquisitions, due diligence, and other business initiatives.
  • Prepare financial schedules and analysis for banks, lenders, auditors, attorneys, and other outside parties.
  • Assist with external audits and tax-related requests when needed.
  • Help monitor completion of accounting deadlines and unresolved financial items.
  • Work directly with Controllers, CFOs, property managers, and accounting personnel across the organization.
  • Provide ownership with concise reporting of findings, discrepancies, unresolved issues, and recommended corrective actions.

Candidate Profile

We were looking for someone with:

  • Strong senior-level accounting experience.
  • Experience with financial statements, reconciliations, general ledger accounting, and month-end close.
  • Strong understanding of internal controls.
  • Ability to audit and investigate accounting records independently.
  • Experience working with multiple entities.
  • Excellent Excel and financial-analysis skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify inconsistencies.
  • Ability to communicate findings clearly to ownership and senior management.
  • High degree of discretion and confidentiality.
  • CPA, audit experience, or strong internal-control experience preferred.
  • Real-estate accounting experience considered particularly valuable because the role would help you with the real-estate portfolio as well.
