Job Title: Payroll Specialist (Workday Payroll)
Location: San Francisco, CA (Hybrid/On-site)
Job Type: 6 month contract with potential for extension and/or permanent conversion.
Pay Rate: $54.00 to 57.70/hour
About the Opportunity
Our client is seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to support ongoing payroll operations within a fast-paced corporate environment. This role is focused on full-cycle U.S. payroll processing utilizing Workday Payroll and requires a strong understanding of payroll tax compliance, payroll reconciliations, and end-to-end payroll execution.

Responsibilities
- Execute end-to-end U.S. payroll processing using Workday Payroll
- Perform pre-payroll validation including employee data, earnings, deductions, and payroll changes
- Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing according to established payroll schedules
- Complete payroll reconciliations and post-payroll audits
- Process off-cycle payroll runs, adjustments, and corrections
- Manage payroll tax filings and compliance requirements at federal, state, and local levels
- Support year-end payroll activities, including W-2 processing and audit preparation
- Partner with HR, Finance, and third-party vendors to resolve payroll-related issues
- Maintain payroll accuracy while ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable regulations
Qualifications
- 3 years of experience processing U.S. payroll
- Hands-on experience with Workday Payroll (required)
- Strong knowledge of U.S. payroll taxes, regulations, and compliance requirements
- Experience managing both pre-payroll and post-payroll processes
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and organizational abilities
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting payroll operations in large or multi-state organizations
- Familiarity with payroll vendors such as ADP
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification
- Experience working in multinational or complex payroll environments
