Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Data Center Tech Ops Engineer to serve as a Commissioning (Cx) Owner’s Representative supporting retro-commissioning efforts in operational data centers. This role focuses on ensuring the reliability, performance, and compliance of critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure systems.
You will work closely with vendors, contractors, and cross-functional teams to oversee testing, validation, and commissioning activities while maintaining uptime and minimizing operational risk.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide oversight for testing and validation of electrical and mechanical systems in live data center environments
- Review as-built documentation, design drawings, equipment submittals, and sequences of operations
- Manage and coordinate third-party commissioning vendors during onsite functional and integrated systems testing
- Audit commissioning activities to ensure compliance with environmental, quality, and safety standards
- Identify and resolve technical issues, balancing project schedules and operational constraints
- Support development and review of commissioning documentation including test plans, scripts, and reports
- Contribute to scheduling, planning, and execution of retro-commissioning projects
- Deliver regular progress reports and performance metrics to leadership
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring milestones, budgets, and performance targets are met
- Share lessons learned and drive continuous improvement across teams and programs
Systems & Infrastructure Scope
- Medium and low voltage power systems
- Generators and UPS systems
- HVAC systems (Air Handlers, Exhaust Fans, VFDs)
- Chilled water systems
- Building Management Systems (BMS)
- Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS)
- Testing and balancing processes
- Pumps and hydronic systems
Basic Qualifications
- 5 years of experience in engineering, installation, or commissioning/startup of electrical and/or mechanical systems
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience
- Strong technical expertise in at least one discipline (mechanical, electrical, or controls), with the ability to cross-train in others
- Ability to interpret and review engineering documentation (drawings, specs, submittals, sequences of operation)
- Experience reviewing commissioning documentation to ensure alignment with design intent
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with SharePoint or similar tools
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work across multiple teams in high-pressure environments
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Advanced understanding of critical infrastructure systems (mechanical, electrical, controls)
- Ability to read and edit construction documents and control diagrams
- Experience developing and executing test procedures based on design intent and approved submittals
