Position Summary- The Assistant Controller will be the primary support for billing, Accounts Receivable, and Accounts payable. This person will assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements and other documents required for audits. In addition, this person will serve as the backup for the accounting department as needed with specific emphasis on billing and Accounts Receivable functions.
- The person in this role is a crucial support role within the agency's accounting department, working closely with the controller to ensure accurate financial reporting, compliance, and efficient operations.
- Overseeing accounting processes: Managing the day-to-day operations of accounting functions, such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger.
- Maintains the cash account reconciliations for the agency and any affiliates for internal control. Prepares and books necessary journal entries after receiving the proper authorization.
- Helps prepare monthly financial statements by input of recurring entries, input other information as requested.
- Assists in the preparation of departmental and agency budgets.
- Prepare work papers for grant and financial audits to verify the accuracy of accounts.
- Reconcile all bank statements for internal control purposes.
- Prepare financial statements by working with the corporate controller to create and analyze income statements, balance sheets, and other financial reports.
- Identify and analyze differences between actual and budgeted figures of financial data to identify trends and opportunities.
- Identifying and resolving issues related to financial data and accounting processes.
- Ensure adherence to accounting regulations, standards, and internal policies.
- Prepare work papers for grant and financial audits to verify the accuracy of accounts.
- Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard assets and prevent errors.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency.
- Maintain accuracy and security of financial data.
- Serve as a liaison and assist with internal and external audits.
- Support and as directed by the Corporate Controller, supervise accounting staff
- Monitors the budget for repairs, renovations, maintenance, and acquisitions in coordination with the Corporate Controller.
- Plans for approved capital improvements by researching costs and contractor options. Oversees the work of contractors and resolves issues that may arise. Acts as a liaison between the agency and outside contractors and vendors.
- Manages assigned staff by delegating tasks and duties, ensuring quality of work, providing training and feedback as necessary. Conducts evaluations as required.
- Participates as a member of the Safety Committee, preparing checklists and documentation for the committee as needed.
- Completes all other tasks as assigned that are consistent with the skills of the person and best characterized by the position.
- A bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or a related field with a demonstrated pattern of progressive accounting responsibility and supervision. OR
- An associate degree and a minimum of five (5) years of experience with Accounts Receivable and Payable processing, as well as general ledger entries and maintenance.
- A minimum of two years' experience with Medicaid, Medicaid Title XIX MR/DD Waiver, health insurance, and/or private funding sources for rehabilitation and/or clinic services is preferred.
