Substation Technician

I. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists, or performs personally:

A. Performs monthly inspections of all substations. Sets up and maintains substation maintenance records and schedules.

B. Inspects monthly and takes reading of all voltage regulators on the system

C. Maintains line equipment such as reclosers, regulators, and transformers.

D. Maintains maintenance records on oil filled distribution equipment.

E. Maintains the switch number file.

F. Assists in field verification of map and system data.

G. Assists Meter Technicians with voltage and service quality complaints and meter problems.

H. Assist with diagnosing, locating, and correcting any malfunction occurring on all electrical control systems and/or their associated equipment.

I. Serves as an on-call dispatch operator on rotating basis for power outages after regular office hours.

J. Performs other duties as assigned or as required by the position.

III. REPORTS TO: Senior Engineering Technician

IV. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. A. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School Graduate. Minimum of two (2) years' experience with electric utility preferably in areas of equipment installation and maintenance highly desirable. PC experience required with Microsoft Office experience desired.

B. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret safety rules, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, complete forms, and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers and the general public.

C. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

D. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where various degrees of standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

E. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS: The employee shall possess and maintain current at all times a valid Texas driver's license.

2. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

3. The employee must regularly drive a vehicle alone and unassisted during daylight hours and after dark.

1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to vibration.

2. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
