What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chemical Engineer Trainee position at RUSHNU?
About Rushnu
Rushnu is a climate tech startup developing sustainable solutions to decarbonize chemical manufacturing. By integrating CO₂ capture with innovative process design, we enable cleaner production of essential industrial chemicals for sectors like water treatment, energy, and materials.
We’re driven by impact and innovation — and we’re building a team of people who are excited to tackle hard problems with practical, scalable technologies.
Position Overview
We’re seeking a Chemical Engineer Trainee to support both pilot-scale operations and process modeling efforts. In this role, you’ll work hands-on with our engineering team to operate, troubleshoot, and improve pilot systems while using tools like Aspen Plus or HYSYS to simulate and optimize the underlying processes.
This is a high-growth opportunity for an early-career engineer who wants to gain experience across lab, pilot, and simulation workstreams — and make a real impact in decarbonizing heavy industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and support pilot-scale chemical systems, including setup, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
- Use AspenTech software (Aspen Plus, Aspen HYSYS, etc.) for process modeling and optimization.
- Assist in data collection, analysis, and application of results to improve pilot system performance.
- Collaborate with senior engineers to refine process design and scale-up strategies.
- Contribute to technical documentation, reports, and safety procedures.
- Participate in R&D activities related to new process concepts and configurations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or related field (Master’s preferred).
- Familiarity with AspenTech simulation tools (academic or project-based experience is acceptable).
- Strong grasp of process fundamentals — thermodynamics, mass/energy balances, and reactor or separation design.
- Interest in hands-on lab or pilot system operation.
- Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and willingness to learn quickly.
- Good communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
Why Join Us
- Work at the intersection of operation and simulation — real-world engineering experience.
- Help develop practical solutions to one of the world’s most urgent challenges.
- Accelerated learning and career growth in a mission-driven startup environment.
