This apprenticeship is a hands-on path into CNC turning. You’ll learn to safely operate a CNC lathe, assist with setups, verify part quality, and document your work—supported by experienced machinists who care about precision, safety, and your growth.
Role Snapshot- Operate CNC lathes to manufacture metal parts with close supervision.
- Load raw materials, initiate programs, monitor cycles, and stop machines as needed.
- Identify errors, tool wear, vibration, or surface defects and report them quickly.
- Perform beginner-level setup tasks: change tools, adjust offsets, assist with calibration.
- Learn Mazatrol basics and machine control operation.
- Inspect components using dial calipers, OD/ID micrometers, and gauges; verify against prints/specs.
- Record production counts and inspection outcomes; follow job sheets and work instructions.
- Clean and lubricate machines; maintain a neat, safe work area.
- High school diploma or GED (bonus for trade school or machining program).
- No prior experience required; mechanical or manufacturing background is beneficial.
- Basic math skills (fractions, decimals, tolerances); ready to learn blueprint reading.
- Mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a safety-first mindset.
- Prolonged standing with routine lifting of 10–50 lbs.
- Industrial setting featuring noise, oil/coolant, and metal chips.
- Shift-based work with potential overtime.
- Foundational setup and tooling knowledge.
- Accurate measurement and quality control methods.
- Introductory CNC programming with Mazatrol.
- Understanding of production flow and quality standards.
- Comprehensive shop safety practices.
