JOB SUMMARY: Oversee the daily operations of our life-skills and play-based early childhood center. The ideal candidate will foster a calm, respectful, and child-centered environment that supports independence, exploration, and the holistic development of each child. This role includes both administrative leadership and educational support for staff, families, and children.

Essential Functions, Duties And Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate all daily operations in alignment with licensing standards
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations internal, federal and state and health/safety protocols
  • Foster strong relationships with families, promoting transparency and shared responsibility in each child’s growth
  • Conduct regular observations in classrooms to support staff and guide professional development
  • Assist in curriculum oversight in partnership with Early Learning Managers and Directors
  • Coordinate scheduling, staff training, and evaluations to maintain a high-quality teaching team
  • Lead staff meetings focused on reflective practice, Montessori theory, and team cohesion
  • Oversee child enrollment, orientation, and transitions, maintaining accurate records and communicating with families
  • Partner with the Director on budgeting, supplies, and classroom resources, ensuring materials are complete and well-maintained
  • Organize parent education sessions and community-building events
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable federal and state sanitation and safety regulations and Child & Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) guidelines, including traditional foods guidelines.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervises the work of assigned staff to ensure adherence to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures, correcting errors or problems as they arise.
  • Interprets and communicates work procedures and company policies to provide assigned staff with guidance in handling difficult or complex problems and in resolving escalated complaints or disputes.
  • Encourages and builds mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members and inspire members of a group to work together to accomplish tasks.
  • Discusses job performance problems with employees to identify causes and issues and to work on resolving problems.
  • Trains and instructs employees in job duties and company policies.
  • Evaluates assigned staff’s job performance and conformance to regulations and recommends appropriate personnel action.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/JOB CONDITIONS:

  • Agency is a mandated tobacco, drug and alcohol-free workplace.
  • This position is located primarily at RurAL CAP’s Child Development Center. Work will be conducted in a general office environment and in classrooms.
  • Capable of reading, understanding, and following written procedures and policies related to job responsibilities.
  • Must have the ability to operate the following equipment: desktop computer, telephone, copier, PC printer, and fax machine.
  • Uses computers and computer programs effectively to enter data, create spreadsheets and process information, and to develop documents, and program and training materials.
  • Develops specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work.
  • Communicates with others outside the organization, representing the organization to customers, the public, and other external sources in person, in writing, or by telephone or e-mail in keeping with current policies & procedures.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly to grasp, type, see, talk, hear, and lift and carry 40 pounds of weight by utilizing proper lifting techniques and working in a safe manner. This position will also be performing physical activities such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, bending, and handling materials.
  • Occasionally performs sedentary activities that require sitting for long periods and repetitive use of hands, wrists and arms for handling, positioning, moving materials, and manipulating things.
  • Must be in good general health and free from serious physical, mental health and/or substance abuse problems.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or hours vary with location. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, with some out-of-area and overnight travel expected.

Employment Requirements And Required Education

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must pass state and federal background checks, including fingerprints.
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in early childhood education, Child Development, or a related field
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of supervisory experience in a licensed childcare setting
  • Knowledge of childcare licensing regulations and best practices in early childhood education
  • CPR and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and handle emergencies calmly and effectively
  • Passionate about working with children and fostering a positive learning environment
  • Proven ability and willingness to be self-directed in problem solving and decision-making and perform basic assignment with little or no direct supervision while also working effectively as a team member.
  • Demonstrated intermediate level of computer skills necessary in order to use and create documents and reports, spreadsheets, workshop materials and slide presentations, and to enter data into intricate database programs and proficient use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Outlook.
  • Must keep all matters concerning participants in strictest confidence as required by HIPAA privacy and the 42 CFR, Part II confidentiality regulations.
  • Must provide a TB screening and basic physical exam within thirty (30) days of hire with follow-up every three (3) years at employee’s expense.
  • Must be able to provide own transportation to meet work schedule requirements.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Director or Administrator-level certification (as required by state regulations)
  • Experience with curriculum planning and classroom observation
  • Bilingual abilities
