Job Summary

To set up and operate a variety of welding equipment, including electric-welding apparatus, acetylene-welding apparatus, and other assigned welding apparatus to perform complex welding of all types of parts, assemblies, piping or other items, working to exacting tolerances.

Responsibilities and Duties

1.  Plans work, including determining welding techniques and sequence of welding operations, follows complicated engineered drawings and sketches, welding practices and approved procedures.

 2.  Sets-up welding equipment for a variety of welding operations, making adjustments to related positioners and fixtures as required, to work material.

 3.  Performs complex layouts and assemblies on a variety of parts, including experimental and development items, bending of pipe and burning of plate.

 4.  Must certify per Section 9 of ASME Code qualifications with the different types of filler material, along with the different methods and positions, as required by the facility and customer requirements.

 5.  Monitors quality of work throughout all stages of welding, making dimensional and visual checks and conducting non-destructive tests on items worked.  Takes appropriate corrective action to correct faults in work.

 6.  Operates all electric-welding, acetylene-welding plasma and plate burning and blasting apparatus to perform complex welding on all types of parts, completed assemblies, piping and other items, including experimental and proto-type items, working on a broad range of corrosion resistant materials and to exacting tolerances to meet Code requirements of ASME, and Ruhrpumpen drawings.

 7.  Performs required burning, soldering, and silver brazing.

 8.  Maintains assigned equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition.

 9.  Operates hand grinding and chipping equipment on parts, as required.

10.  Operates overhead crane and other material moving equipment along with other power equipment used in the welding process.

11.  Instructs and provides assistance to others as needed.

 12.  Furnishes own hand tools.

13.  May be required to perform LPE and occasional hydro testing.

14.  Performs other duties as assigned.

15.  Follows appropriate handling and disposal of hazardous waste in compliance with JHA’S ons.  Knowledge of applicable Safety Data Sheets (SDS).

16.  For protections of self and others, performs all work in accordance with established

safety practices and facility rules.

17.  Produces quality on time parts and complies with ISO 9000 requirements.

18.  Maintain daily weld log and maintains Continuity log.

 19.  All personal tools will follow company RPI calibration requirements.

20.  All personnel are required to locate their materials for processing and relocate them to next process staging area.

Qualifications and Skills

High School Diploma or Equivalent.

Completion of 2 to four years of Trade or Technical School or equivalent.

Five plus years of experience preferred.

Knowledge

Completion of Trade or Technical School in welding or equivalent experience, requiring use of shop mathematics, some complicated drawings, specifications, charts, and tables, together with the use of precision measuring instruments. Must be able to read and write English.
