Description
Rugged Science designs and manufactures ruggedized computers, shock-hardened operator interface panels, ruggedized LED displays, and other custom rugged solutions. Our products are used in military and industrial applications. We specialize in custom prototype development as well as sustained production runs.
Rugged Science is currently in need of a first shift Quality Inspector at our main facility in Sparks, MD. Specific responsibilities of the Quality Inspector include but are not limited to:
- Perform incoming inspections of electronic and mechanical parts
- COTS and custom electronics
- Custom cable assemblies
- Commercial and custom Mechanical fasteners
- Custom metal fabrications from our shop
- Perform in-process inspections assemblies and subassemblies:
- Inspection of assembled enclosures
- Inspect workmanship including soldering, wire routing, wire and cable assemblies
- Perform final inspection of finished products
- Verify compliance to workmanship standards
- Verify compliance to engineering drawings
- Verify completion of testing
- Perform First Article Inspection and prepare reports
- Create Inspection Plans by interpreting Engineering drawings
- Document nonconformities
- Assist with Calibration and Maintenance activities
- Participate in Internal Quality Audits for conformity to established processes.
- Track process metrics and quality objectives
- Periodically support production and test activities when needed
Requirements
The ideal candidate for Quality Inspector will have the following:
- U.S. Citizenship
- 3-5 years’ experience in similar role, or Associates Degree in Quality, Manufacturing Technology or related discipline
- Will require certification to IPC-A-610 and IPC-A-620
- Familiarity with IPC-A-600 is desirable
- Must be knowledgeable using calipers, height gauges and other dimensional measuring equipment
- Must be able to read and understand complex engineering drawings
- Must be able to develop inspection plans based on engineering drawings
- Must be able to work independently
- Must have 20/20 vision (with correction if necessary)
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office software products – particularly MS Excel
- Must be proficient with computers and able to use/learn electronic ERP system
- Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds
- Position requires a high degree of attention to detail
The Quality Inspector will report to the Director of Manufacturing Quality. Standard work hours are from 7 AM to 3:30 PM but may require other hours to coordinate with Assembly and Test.
