The Rear Load Garbage Truck Driver reports to the Fleet Supervisor and services commercial properties, residential neighborhoods, and mixed collection routes. This role operates rear-load compactor vehicles, performs manual cart handling and assisted bulky-item collection, and uses paper route sheets and a GPS dispatch system to complete routes safely and efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Drive assigned commercial, residential, and mixed waste collection routes.
- Collect and handle waste using rear-load compactor equipment.
- Perform manual cart handling and assisted bulky-item collection.
- Inspect the truck and complete required pre-trip checks.
- Navigate routes using paper route sheets and the GPS dispatch system.
- Follow safety procedures, DOT requirements, and waste-handling practices.
- Monitor vehicle condition and report maintenance needs.
- Provide professional customer service and document collection incidents.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2 years of experience in commercial waste collection driving.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with the appropriate class and air-brake endorsement.
- Knowledge of commercial vehicle operation and defensive driving.
- Experience with route navigation and rear-load compactor operation.
- Understanding of pre-trip inspections, DOT compliance, and waste-handling procedures.
- Strong time-management and customer-service skills.
