What are the responsibilities and job description for the Managed Transportation Specialist position at Ruan Transportation Management Systems?
Responsible for the coordination, assignment and management of shipments; primarily, for a specific contractual customer using a core group of established transportation providers.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage the business and service relationship with a contractual customer to ensure their specific requirements including service expectations, commodity handling, facility protocol and hours of operations are understood and complied with.
- Manage and coordinate all contractually obligated shipments via an established carrier base using; primarily, a predetermined route guide(s) to ensure adequate capacity to meet customer demands.
- Actively monitor all shipments to ensure safe and timely delivery while complying with all State and Federal regulations and Ruan company policies.
- Act as a liaison between customer and transportation providers. Provide outstanding customer service by handling and responding to all customer inquires timely and accurately. Investigate and proficiently resolve all shipment related issues to ensure on-time pickup and delivery.
- Establish strong working relationships amongst co-workers and other Ruan operations including Integrated Solutions, transport operations and RDAS to leverage capacity, improve service and maximize profitability. Perform functions and support the activity of other operations as necessary.
- Actively pursue carriers to better understand their capabilities to support our customer's needs including specific equipment type(s), on-board communications, and service area.
- Create, maintain, and/or analyze customer focused KPI reporting process focused on operational efficiencies and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Perform other job-related duties and special projects as required.
Qualifications:
Job Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience in Logistics/Transportation/Business
Experience: 1-2 years experience in transportation or logistics industry involving dispatch and customer service.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- Employee must have knowledge of the DOT rules and regulations. Must have strong computer skills including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access) and ability to learn related transportation software. Demonstrated ability to effectively organize and prioritize workload in a multi-task environment. Must have good customer service and relationship building skills. Must have strong verbal and written communication and the ability to effectively communicate with diverse groups of people.
