What are the responsibilities and job description for the Commercial Local Driver - Low Solids position at RTTI?

Summary/Objective:
The Low Solids Hauler is responsible for operating a commercial vehicle to transport freight, according to dispatched instructions, from the various processing plants to various dairy farms. The professional driver will ensure that safety is a priority in the operation of the commercial vehicle at all times. They will make sure that a high level of commitment and customer service is provided to all clients and that a positive public image of Rich Thompson Trucking, Inc. is portrayed at all times.
Essential Functions
· Driver will remain outside of the vehicle during the loading and unloading process at all times. Levels in the trailer or silo will be closely monitored to avoid overflowing.
· Transport product in a safe, efficient, timely and legal manner in accordance with all Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) guidelines.
· Unload at various dairy farms, as directed, in a safe, timely and clean manner.
· Make sure that the gas is shut off to the pump after each load.
· Ensure that all the couplers and hoses are on the truck and are in good condition.
· Make sure the trailer dome lid is open at all times while loading and unloading.
· Communicate with dispatch any delay that may affect scheduled pick up or delivery times.
· Hook and unhook trailers as needed.
· Carefully plan travel routes to ensure that deliveries are completed in a timely manner.
· Monitor road conditions and watch for traffic congestion and weather issues.
· install and remove tire chains in inclement weather.
· Complete all required paperwork for each load and turn it in to the office at the end of each shift. (If electronic manifests are required, complete those as well.)
· Daily perform physical and paper vehicle inspections on the truck and trailer to ensure that all mechanical systems are in good working order.
· Clean inside of vehicle after every shift and remove all garbage.
· Follow all applicable DOT and FMCSA safety regulations for commercial drivers.
· Promptly report any traffic violations, accidents or break downs to management personnel.
· The above functions are not all inclusive. Additional items pertaining to the position may also be required.
Competencies
· Must have a Class a Commercial Driver’s License with a tanker endorsement.
· A current Department of Transportation (DOT) physical administered by a certified medical provider is required.
· Knowledge of all applicable DOT and FMCSA regulations is required.
· Two years of verifiable commercial driving experience is preferred.
· Prior experience is preferred.
