Brief Description
The Railroad Technician, under general direction, is responsible for the coordination of activities for the railcar movements and inventory movements between railcars, bulk trucks, and silos. This includes but is not limited to ensuring the accurate and timely movement of cars in the Crockett, TX rail yard facility. Communicate with contractors when necessary and other departments to make sure daily needs are met and material movement issues are properly resolved, and exercising judgement in safety, planning, delegating, and performing the job.

CONTACTS: Internal - Confinuously (75-100%), External - Occasionally (<25%). Contacts involve giving or exchanging information of a limited controversial nature.Regularly - Communicates via phone, email, in person. Required to sit, perform keyboard work for prolonged periods of time. Operates a computer and other office equipment such as a copy machine and printer. Exposure to moving mechanical parts. Frequently - Talk and hear to coordinate day-to-day phone and in person transactions. Work in temperature extremes, wet and/or humid outdoor conditions, with dust, fumes, airborne particles, and moderately dirty work areas. Wear fall protection harness and connect to lifeline. Exposure to noise levels above the OSHA action level requiring use of hearing protection. Occasionally - Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Other - Specific vision abilities may require close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities
- Directs or assists in the routing of all inbound rail shipments of raw materials from the switching railroad into the Crockett plant's rail yard.
- Coordinates and schedules (with Logistics) the movement of both empties and outbound railcars of finished product destined to customers.
- Facilitates the movement of outbound and inbound bulk trucks insuring fully loaded bulk truck shipments of finished product destined to customers.
- Performs point person duties concerning communications directly with the switching railroad in the absence of the Logistics Supervisor, or as needed daily.
- Point person in operating the Shuttle Wagon Railcar Mover. Ensuring that at least 1, if not 2 spotters are used at any time while safely moving railcars on tracks.
- Ensures all housekeeping standards are followed daily on the rail yard.
- Able to check equipment over daily and relay any issues to maintenance for repair.
- Recognizes, retains, and protects confidential information, specifically with customer information pertaining to pricing, formulations, business relationships and product characteristics.
- Works closely with Warehouse Supervisor / other management to investigate root cause of discrepancies to improve overall group performance.
- Attends plant safety meetings and adheres to safety policies and procedures.
- Ensures plant rules, policies and procedures are followed.
- Meets requirements to achieve and maintain certifications and accreditations, as they pertain to job.
- Follows instructions of supervisor(s) and plant manager pertaining to job.
- Other duties/responsibilities as assigned or apparent.
Skills and Abilities
- Ensures safety is the number one priority in all day to day moves.
- Knowledgeable of RTP ERP system a plus.
- Knowledge of and experience working with general office equipment (phones, intercom, copier, fax).
- Excellent verbal communication skill and positive demeanor at all times with internal and external customers.

- Attendance is an essential function of the position.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
- High school diploma/equivalent or 3-5 years like industry experience.
- Three (3) to five (5) years rail yard experience preferred.
- Forklift experience preferred.
- Specific car mover safety training like Railking, Trackmobile, or Shuttlewagon.
