This position is responsible for installation, management, maintenance, capacity planning design and engineering for the infrastructure’s vital fiber network infrastructure. This is a safety sensitive position subject to the rules and regulations of the RTD FRA Drug & Alcohol Policy.

Essential

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in developing network design and plans for organizational networks and implementing a five-year network plan that considers growth, high availability and disaster recovery.
  • Regularly monitors the performance, availability and latency of network systems.
  • Installs, configures, maintains/ repairs server hardware/software and evaluates new technologies, methodologies and technology trends to ensure that network infrastructure meets current and future needs.
  • Performs maintenance and repair of WiMax radio network, SCADA, CCTV, PAVMS, Emergency Telephones, ATC, CTC and PTC systems.
  • Maintains information technology inventory records of multiple sites and local area network hardware and software as well as coordinating repairs and quality control tests.
  • Creates and maintains user accounts, manages user groups, and assigns network permissions.
  • Performs all other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering or other closely related field. In lieu of no degree, an educational equivalency may be granted dependent upon related certifications and work experience.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in the analysis, installation, administration and troubleshooting of all aspects of a data network. Prior rail experience is preferred.
  • A minimum of five years of experience working with TCP/IP, VPN, IPsec, tunneling fiber optics, gigabit Ethernet, VLANs, 802.11x(WiFi), OSPF, Cisco IOS, VRRP, QOS, ACLs, VoIP, spanning tree, SNMP, RADIUS, IPS/IDS, AD, DNS, DHCP, RDP and SSH.
  • A CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) is highly desired.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through verbal and written means.
  • Ability to use sound judgment.
  • Ability to manage time and workload effectively which includes planning, organizing, and prioritizing with attention to details.
  • Ability to support critical systems after hours, nights and weekends as needed in a 24/7/365 railroad environment.
  • Proficiency in wired network as well as wireless (WiFi) network security and encryption standards.
  • Proficiency in testing procedures/safe practices re data loss and high data integrity.
  • Proficiency in network monitoring and performance management systems.
  • Proficiency in CAT 5/CAT3 cabling and multi/single node fiber optics.
  • Proficiency in network design and planning technologies.
  • Proficiency with specialized test equipment.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus and ability to work in nighttime darkness with artificial illumination.

Starting salary is based on the candidate’s relevant and verified education, training and work experience.
