In this role, you will be responsible for the shift supervision of dispatchers and provide direction across all shifts including 24/7 work scheduling, training and compliance while ensuring operational effectiveness. You will have a direct impact on the morale and mentorship of all other Public Safety Dispatchers. In addition, you will dispatch emergency police, security, and other non-emergency public safety equipment as required. You will also make notifications as appropriate.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Answer, evaluate, and prioritize incoming telephone calls, communicating effectively with various callers to obtain complete and accurate information to determine urgency and need for dispatching emergency response units using a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, telephones, multi-channel radio, and numerous computer databases and maps.
  • Accurately and consistently dispatch the appropriate police and/or security resources while coordinating fire, ambulance, or other emergency response, track the status and location of each, and transmit messages and information to units.
  • Maintain positive and professional written and verbal communication skills at all times; consistently provide excellent customer service to all citizens and emergency responders.
  • Assists in the development of curriculum for the Public Safety Dispatcher Basic Academy and other training; conducts both On-The-Job and classroom training
  • Provides specialized and intervention training for assigned trainees
  • Maintains a high level of morale and motivation within the department and ensures all personnel operate as a team in the performance of their duties
  • Encourages cooperation and support among all the employees of the center and serves as a coach and mentor to all public safety dispatchers
  • Detects and takes corrective action when communication systems or program errors occur

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • A minimum of two years of combined experiences in military or civilian law enforcement, security, fire, medical services, military, and/or public safety and/or transit dispatching.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with citizens, responders and team, orally and in writing
  • Ability to speak and hear clearly with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Utilize sound judgment and make quick decisions in an emergency environment
  • Manage time and workload effectively, including planning, organizing, and prioritizing with attention to details
  • Work a flexible schedule including shift work on a rotating schedule, holidays and weekends
  • Obtain and maintain required certifications through the Colorado Bureau of Investigation as well as the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials
  • Ability to perform all assigned duties independently in a high stress, fast-paced environment
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite

  • The work environment is typically in an office environment with moderate to high exposure to excessive noise or adverse environmental issues however, on occasion, incumbent may be required to work in adverse weather conditions.
