Commercial Door & Hardware Installer
RT Western, Inc. is seeking an experienced Commercial Door & Hardware Installer to join our team in Northern California.
This position focuses on shop preparation, door hardware installation, and quality control of commercial door assemblies before materials are delivered to the field. We are looking for individuals with hands-on experience working with commercial doors, frames, and hardware who take pride in producing accurate, high-quality work.
Responsibilities
- Prepare commercial wood and hollow metal doors for installation.
- Layout, drill, mortise, machine, and prep doors and frames according to project requirements and manufacturer templates.
- Install commercial door hardware including hinges, continuous hinges, locksets, mortise locks, exit devices, door closers, flush bolts, astragals, kick plates, protection plates, door contacts, electric strikes, and related components.
- Determine proper door handing and opening configurations.
- Read and interpret hardware schedules, shop drawings, specifications, and installation instructions.
- Verify hardware quantities and identify missing, incorrect, or damaged materials.
- Perform quality control inspections to ensure openings are complete and ready for field installation.
- Troubleshoot hardware and installation issues.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
QualificationsRequired
- Minimum 2 years of commercial door and hardware experience.
- Strong understanding of commercial door hardware applications and functions.
- Ability to identify door handing and hardware applications without supervision.
- Experience with commercial doors, frames, hardware, and door preparation.
- Ability to read hardware schedules, shop drawings, and installation instructions.
- Experience using drills, routers, grinders, measuring equipment, and shop tools.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
- Reliable transportation and dependable attendance.
Preferred
- Experience working for a commercial door contractor, hardware supplier, or Division 8 contractor.
- Experience with manufacturers such as Schlage, Von Duprin, LCN, Dormakaba, Best, Sargent, Yale, Corbin Russwin, Hager, Pemko, and Rockwood.
- Experience with electrified hardware and access control components.
- Knowledge of fire-rated and smoke-rated door assemblies.
- Familiarity with DHI standards and commercial hardware industry best practices.
- Warehouse experience and forklift certification are a plus.
