Full Time Custodian to work Nights as Lead Custodian at BEMS.
Pay Range $22.75-26.41
SUMMARY: Maintains the District's school buildings cleanliness, safety, and sanitary conditions so
that there is no disruption in educational, athletic and extracurricular programs; assures that all
buildings and grounds present a safe working environment for staff, students and community members.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists the lead custodians in instructing custodians verbally or in writing regarding building and
and maintained.
- Assists with seasonal maintenance chores; i.e. lawn care and snow removal.
- Assists with inventory of custodial supplies and equipment.
- Assists in performing ongoing preventative maintenance routines and minor repairs and reports
- Provides and sets up needed supplies and equipment, and provides building information and
- Maintains and monitors the security of buildings and grounds during assigned shift, and reports any
- Maintains work related records and prepares various reports as directed.
- Assists with setup and cleaning requirements for extra curricular activities and non-school use
- Other duties as may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversees custodians at their building level.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or a
minimum of ten years of life experiences may be considered.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, equipment
operating and maintenance manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to
speak effectively to groups of customers or District employees.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure
using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to
construct and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete
variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of
instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
with students and the community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and
written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of
Education policies.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described herein are representative of those that
must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands
and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk and hear. The employee frequently is
required to reach with hands and arms and occasionally required to sit. The employee frequently must
squat, stoop or kneel; reach above the head and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand
strength to grasp tools; and climbs on ladders. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck
and trunk more than the average person.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move items which weigh up to 50 pounds such as pails of
cleaning supplies or unloading trucks. Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move items which
weigh up to 90 pounds such as bulk deicing materials or bulk furniture. The employee will sometimes
push/pull items such as tables, bleachers, scrubbing machines, etc. Specific vision abilities such as
close vision, distance vision, and color vision are required by this job. Some driving is necessary.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The characteristics of the work environment described herein are
representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this
job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee regularly works
indoors, but must be prepared to occasionally work outdoors. The employee will work near or with
moving mechanical equipment. The employee may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals
such as petroleum products, degreasers,
