Speech and Language Pathologist Reports To Director of Special Services and Building Principal Salary Range $57,392 – $109,152 annually, pursuant to the KAKEA Collective Bargaining Agreement Appendix I Salary Scale (2026–2027) Position Summary Regional School Unit 21 (RSU 21) is seeking a Speech and Language Pathologist to provide screening, evaluation, treatment, consultation, and case management services that enable students to access and benefit from their educational programs. The Speech and Language Pathologist collaborates with families, educators, specialists, and community partners to support students with speech, language, hearing, and communication needs. The ideal candidate is a highly skilled professional with a passion for supporting school-age children, a commitment to evidence-based practices, and strong collaboration, communication, organizational, and diagnostic skills. Qualifications Master’s Degree in Communication Disorders required. Current State of Maine Speech-Language Pathologist licensure required. Valid Maine Department of Education Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) required. Successful experience working with school-age children preferred. Strong communication, collaboration, organizational, diagnostic, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Essential Responsibilities Communication and Collaboration Provide instructional planning based on completed diagnostic evaluations. Consult with and provide materials to general education and special education staff. Develop speech therapy schedules in collaboration with administrators, teachers, specialists, and families. Provide written progress reports to families during required reporting periods and as needed. Collaborate with outside agencies, consultants, specialists, and related service providers. Provide consultation and support to parents and families. Operational Excellence Conduct speech and language assessments and evaluations in a timely manner. Maintain accurate records for annual reviews, reevaluations, and compliance requirements. Participate in IEP meetings and eligibility determination processes. Provide professional development and in-service training. Bill for MaineCare reimbursement services as appropriate. Leadership and Program Management Stay current with developments in speech-language pathology, AAC, and assistive technology. Attend special education staff meetings and participate on district committees. Maintain knowledge of state and federal special education regulations. Manage speech-language and hearing equipment and supplies. Maintain records of hearing aid checks in assigned buildings. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Special Services. Student-Centered Services Screen kindergarten and transfer students for speech and language needs. Case manage students receiving speech-language therapy as primary service. Develop measurable IEP goals aligned with student needs. Provide evidence-based interventions for communication and hearing needs. Communication: Communicates effectively with stakeholders. Physical Requirements Ability to supervise and support students in educational settings. Ability to bend, lift, kneel, and assist students with mobility or personal care needs. Ability to respond during behavioral or emergency situations.
