Position Title: Extended School Year (ESY) Teacher

Reports To: ESY Program Coordinator and Director of Special Services

Salary Range: Hourly rates range from $39.05 (BA-O) to $74.27 (DOC-30), based on the 2025-26 Salary Appendix of the KAKEA collective bargaining agreement.

Position Summary

The Extended School Year (ESY) Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering individualized instruction and supports to students with disabilities participating in the ESY program. The teacher will implement IEP services, collect student progress data, collaborate with related service providers and educational technicians, and maintain a safe, structured, and positive learning environment that supports students in maintaining critical skills identified by the IEP Team.

Work Schedule

This is a temporary summer position supporting the RSU 21 Extended School Year (ESY) Program.

Program Dates: July 6, 2026 – August 13, 2026, 24 days @ 4.5 hours per day

Work schedules will be determined based on student needs and assigned programming. Staff may be assigned to provide services across multiple ESY settings and locations.

Please note that opportunities for additional hours, extended dates, student evaluations, planning time, transition activities, or expanded assignments may be available during or after the ESY program period based on student needs and program requirements.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide specially designed instruction aligned with student IEP goals and objectives.
  • Implement accommodations, modifications, behavior support plans, and other individualized supports as outlined in student IEPs.
  • Supervise and direct Educational Technicians assigned to the ESY program.
  • Collect and maintain data regarding student performance and progress.
  • Collaborate with related service providers, families, and district staff to support student participation and success.
  • Develop and implement structured learning activities that address academic, social-emotional, communication, behavioral, and functional skill needs.
  • Maintain a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Participate in required staff meetings, training sessions, and program planning activities.
  • Complete all required documentation and records in a timely manner.
  • Follow district policies, procedures, and confidentiality requirements.

Qualifications

  • Valid Maine Department of Education Teacher Certification with Special Education endorsement required.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities preferred.
  • Knowledge of behavior intervention strategies, inclusive practices, and IEP implementation.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to supervise support staff and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to actively supervise students in classroom and community-based settings.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to student behavioral and safety needs.
  • Ability to lift, bend, kneel, and assist students as needed.
