Speech and Language Pathologist Reports To: ECSE Coordinator, Director of Special Services and Building Principal Salary Range: $57,392 – $109,152 annually, pursuant to the KAKEA Collective Bargaining Agreement Appendix I Salary Scale (2026–2027) Position Summary Regional School Unit 21 (RSU 21) is seeking a Speech and Language Pathologist to provide screening, evaluation, treatment, consultation, and case management services that enable students to access and benefit from their educational programs. The Speech and Language Pathologist collaborates with families, educators, specialists, and community partners to support students with speech, language, hearing, and communication needs. The ideal candidate is a highly skilled professional with a passion for supporting school-age children, a commitment to evidence-based practices, and strong collaboration, communication, organizational, and diagnostic skills. Qualifications Master’s Degree in Communication Disorders required. Current State of Maine Speech-Language Pathologist licensure required. Valid Maine Department of Education Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) required. Successful experience working with school-age children preferred. Strong communication, collaboration, organizational, diagnostic, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Essential Responsibilities Communication and Collaboration Provide instructional planning based on completed diagnostic evaluations. Consult with and provide materials to general education and special education staff to support students with speech, language, and hearing impairments. Develop speech therapy schedules in collaboration with administrators, teachers, specialists, and families. Provide written progress reports to families during required reporting periods and as needed. Collaborate with outside agencies, consultants, specialists, and related service providers. Provide consultation and support to parents and families. Operational Excellence Conduct speech and language assessments and evaluations in a timely manner. Maintain accurate records to support annual reviews, reevaluations, and compliance requirements. Participate in IEP meetings and eligibility determination processes. Provide professional development and in-service training related to speech, language, and hearing needs. Bill for MaineCare reimbursement services as appropriate. Leadership and Program Management Remain current with developments in speech-language pathology, hearing services, Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), and assistive technology. Attend special education staff meetings and participate on district committees. Maintain current knowledge of state and federal special education regulations. Manage and maintain speech-language and hearing equipment and supplies. Maintain records of hearing aid checks in assigned buildings. Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Special Services. Student-Centered Services Screen kindergarten and transfer students for speech and language needs as appropriate. Case manage students whose primary special education service is speech-language therapy. Develop measurable IEP goals aligned with student needs. Provide evidence-based interventions to address speech, language, communication, and hearing needs. Data-Driven Decision Making: Uses assessment data and progress monitoring to guide instructional and therapeutic decisions. Collaboration: Welcomes feedback, contributes to a shared vision, and supports continuous improvement. Communication: Communicates effectively and professionally with students, families, staff, and community partners. Physical Requirements Ability to actively supervise and support students in educational settings. Ability to bend, lift, kneel, and assist students with mobility and personal care needs as required. Ability to respond appropriately during behavioral, safety-related, or emergency situations. Salary and Benefits 1.0 FTE, 184 days, grant funded Salary is based on the KAKEA Collective Bargaining Agreement Appendix I Salary Scale and ranges from $57,392 to $109,152 annually, depending on education and experience.
