Job Responsibilities
- Interpret and work from shipyard blueprints, drawings, and sketches.
- Lay out, measure, cut, fit, and assemble structural steel components.
- Fabricate and install angles, brackets, clips, and structural members.
- Perform coping, beveling, and fitting operations using hand and power tools.
- Read and interpret dimensions, tolerances, and layout information from prints.
- Use burning equipment, grinders, and fitting tools safely and effectively.
- Tack weld components for final assembly.
- Work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced shipyard environment.
- Maintain quality and safety standards at all times.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of First Class Shipfitter experience in a shipyard or heavy industrial environment.
- Ability to accurately read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and layout measurements.
- Experience with structural fitting, coping, angle fabrication, and layout work.
- Ability to perform complex fit-up work using limited drawing information.
- Skilled in measuring, cutting, fitting, and assembling steel components to specifications.
- Familiarity with shipyard tools, burning equipment, and fitting procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work from measurements and dimensions.
- Must be able to pass a Shipfitter Skills Test.
Requirements
- Must pass a Hair Follicle Drug Screen.
- Must pass a Criminal Background Check.
- Must pass Respirator Clearance.
- Must pass a Shipfitter Skills Assessment.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
