What are the responsibilities and job description for the Civil Field Engineering Inspection Intern position at RS&H?
The Opportunity
We are currently seeking Civil Field Engineering Inspection interns for our Transportation-Construction Management team in the Norfolk and Virginia Beach, VA areas.
As a Civil Field Engineering Inspection intern, you will collaborate with and be mentored by top engineering associates on our team while gaining hands-on experience and a better understanding of the Transportation Construction Management profession. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, be a team player, and be enthusiastic, motivated, honest, and dependable.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Support inspection teams with field inspections
- Verify the dimensions of prepared and completed work
- Collect and prepare data for evaluation
- Perform engineering with the use of computer-assisted engineering software and equipment
- Prepare reports for site operations activities, including materials used and completed work
- Provide support to engineering and project management associates
Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Engineering Management, or a related program at an ABET-accredited university
- Ability to work independently with general supervision as well as within a collaborative team environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
- Good driving record with a valid driver’s license
- Ability to sit, stand, climb, bend, twist, or stoop frequently and for prolonged periods, under various outside conditions
- Ability to reach horizontally as well as vertically for required tasks
- Ability to use construction or inspection safety equipment, including fall protection
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and shake up to 20 pounds
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior internship or related experience
