What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of High Voltage position at RRC Companies?

RCC is seeking a talented Director of High Voltage to help us build the future of U.S. energy production. From our Austin/Round Rock Texas office. or Denver, CO offices in the US, or Calgary, AB, or Toronto, ON offices in Canada. A remote work option is also available. In this role you will be leading and building a high voltage (Substation and Transmission) engineering design team in North America. The Director of High Voltage will oversee engineering operations and ensure that proper engineering procedures are followed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Positive record of consistently building and growing High Voltage Engineering team, including Substation and Transmission Line, focused in the renewable and utility market.
  • Active involvement within the power delivery trade associations.
  • Manages and leads various engineering functions and operations including proposal development, engineering design, quality assurance, and research and development of new and existing designs. 
  • Financially responsible for team budget; includes team revenue, profit and expenses.
  • Ability to be dynamic and nimble with project execution and approach
  • Consults with Vice President of Engineering to create long-range operating goals specific to the needs of the organization.
  • Oversees progress and timeliness of projects.
  • Reviews project reports to ensure projects are on schedule and within budget.
  • Leverage existing network within the power market to secure work and build on the RRC power delivery team.
  • Manage High Voltage engineering team of engineers designing high voltage facilities for the renewable energy and the utility market.
  • Coach and lead teams on project execution, putting the right team in place, providing guidance to managers and responsible for overall project execution.
  • Work on development of proposals including writing and/or reviewing technical specifications, estimating design man-hours and materials, supporting sourcing for vendor quotations, directing managers on drawing requirements, and the development of clarifications and exceptions as well as client satisfaction.
  • Leverage experience to efficiently execute projects.
  • Interface with internal and external team members to provide execute and strategize for the power delivery team.
  • Provide leadership, strategy, and execution to the teams.
  • Be responsible for the oversight, development and grow the power delivery team to execute.
  • Provide, deliver, and develop power market with RRC high voltage engineering team.
  • Maintains knowledge of new trends, developments, technologies, materials, and best practices; applies this knowledge to continually improve product lines and production efficiency. 
  • Identify QA/QC expectations and verify execution of quality policies/procedures.
  • Maintain safe and healthy work environment by establishing, following and enforcing standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations.


REQUIREMENTS:


  • Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in Engineering with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in renewable and utility HV substation and or transmission line engineering consulting and design.
  • Professional Engineering registration license or ability to obtain license.
  • Must be authorized for full-time work in the United States.
  • Knowledge of and experience using IEEE and ANSI standards and codes such as the NEC and NESC and ability to engineer design packages when no clear customer specification is provided
  • Minimum of 5 year managing personnel and project team.
  • Thorough understanding of engineering theory and design criteria, preference of knowledge within the renewable energy markets.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, with a willingness to pro-actively reach out and communicate.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. 
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Proven supervisory and leadership skills. 
  • A knack for innovation.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate
  • Demonstrated knowledge of transmission and substation engineering teams.
  • Effective leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%
