What are the responsibilities and job description for the Store Manager position at RPM Records TC?
Job Overview
RPM Records is looking for a knowledgeable and enthusiastic music lover to join our team and help manage the day-to-day operations of our independent record store. This is an ideal position for someone who enjoys talking about music, connecting with customers, discovering new artists, and working around records and stereo equipment—but who also understands the business side of operating a successful retail store.
The right candidate will have a broad knowledge of music across a variety of genres and eras, strong customer service skills, and a business-oriented mindset. While sharing a passion for music is an important part of the RPM Records experience, this individual should also understand the importance of sales, profitability, inventory management, accurate pricing, and making smart purchasing decisions.
Daily responsibilities will include greeting and assisting customers, answering music-related questions, helping customers locate inventory, operating the cash register, and creating a welcoming environment where customers feel comfortable browsing and talking about music. One of the perks: you’ll get to choose and play music throughout the day!
This position will also assist with evaluating record, CD, and cassette collections brought into the store and determining fair purchase offers based on condition, demand, resale value, and profitability. Previous experience evaluating music collections is helpful but not required—training will be provided.
Additional responsibilities include evaluating and purchasing used stereo equipment and speakers, testing equipment before it is added to inventory, researching and pricing used merchandise, and helping customers with basic questions about audio equipment.
The individual in this role will also help put together RPM Records’ weekly new-vinyl order by identifying customer demand, monitoring inventory, recognizing current music trends, and selecting titles that will sell well in the store. When new inventory arrives, responsibilities will include checking shipments, pricing merchandise, organizing products, and stocking inventory in the appropriate sections.
Basic end-of-day cleaning and store organization are also part of the position. The ideal candidate will take pride in keeping RPM Records clean, organized, well-stocked, and enjoyable for customers.
We are looking for someone who is dependable, self-motivated, comfortable making decisions, eager to learn, and able to balance a genuine passion for music with the financial and operational needs of a small business.
