Electronic Technician

We have one Electronic Technician opening at our client's plant in Phoenix, Arizona.

This work is a bench inside a plant, not a route in a truck. You test the gear, you approve it, and you go home the same day. Every unit you approve goes into a data center, a hospital, or a plant.

This company is growing fast, and it fills higher jobs from inside. You start on the test bench, and you learn medium-voltage work on current equipment. Talented people move up here, and they move up quickly.

Pay and Schedule

The pay is up to $36/hour, plus a bonus.

This is a direct-hire job, and the pay is hourly.

This is a first-shift job.

A normal day starts in the morning and ends in the afternoon. In a busy week the day can start as early as 5:00 AM, or run as late as 7:00 PM, but an 11-hour day is not the standard.

Overtime is available and preapproved, and it pays 1.5 times your rate.

Interview

The interview is about one hour at the plant. This hour includes a tour and a short assessment on meters and test devices.

Duties

• Test switchgear, breakers, relays, panelboards, and automatic transfer switches.
• Do primary injection and secondary injection on breakers.
• Do megger, hipot, contact resistance, timing, and trip tests.
• Test each relay for correct function and correct coordination.
• Compare each unit to the one-line diagram and the project specification.
• Write the test records, and keep the drawings and the photographs with them.
• Find faults and report them to the engineers.

Requirements

• 2 years of switchgear test work in a plant. Equivalent electrical test work is also correct.
• Skill with relay test sets, meggers, hipot testers, multimeters, timing sets, and injection sets.
• You read schematics, wiring diagrams, one-line diagrams, and breaker diagrams.
• You know the function of current transformers and potential transformers.
• You write accurate records.
• You work safely near high voltage.
• You work well in a team.
• You stay in your jobs. This client looks at your tenure first.

Good to Have, But Not Required

• Work with SEL, ABB, Schneider, or Siemens microprocessor relays.
• NETA certification, OSHA 30, or NFPA 70E arc flash training.
• Transformer tests, cable tests, or coordination studies.

Two Points

The PLC work in this job is only an upload of a settings file. It is not programming.

This job is high-voltage power distribution. RF and radio communication work is a different discipline, and it is usually not a match.
