Position Overview
Royalty Roofing & Siding is seeking a motivated Estimating Intern to support our commercial and residential estimating team. This role is designed for someone interested in commercial estimating, roofing systems, siding systems and preconstruction.
The Estimating Intern will assist with quantity takeoffs, bid preparation, subcontractor coordination, and cost analysis for roofing and siding projects. The position provides hands-on experience with real construction projects and exposure to the full preconstruction and bidding process.
This internship is intended to develop future Estimators, Project Managers, and Construction Leaders within the company.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Preconstruction Support
- Assist with material takeoffs for roofing and siding projects using digital plans.
- Measure quantities using Bluebeam, plan takeoff software, and spreadsheets.
- Support estimators in preparing bids, proposals, and scope breakdowns.
- Help calculate quantities for:
- Roofing systems (EPDM, TPO, metal, asphalt)
- Insulation
- Fasteners and accessories
- Flashing and sheet metal
- Siding and trim
- Gutters and downspouts
Bid Preparation
- Organize project documents including:
- Drawings
- Specifications
- Addenda(s)
- Assist with bid tabulation and comparisons
- Help prepare bid packages and submission documents.
Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination
- Contact suppliers for material pricing and availability.
- Assist in collecting and organizing subcontractor quotes.
- Maintain a bid log and pricing database.
Field & Project Exposure
- Occasionally visit job sites to understand:
- Roofing systems
- Installation methods
- Production rates
- Assist with documenting existing roof conditions.
Administrative & Data Tasks
- Maintain estimating spreadsheets and bid trackers.
- Organize digital project folders.
- Assist with updating internal cost databases.
Skills & Qualifications
Preferred Education
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in:
- Construction Management
- Engineering
- Architecture
- Business
- Skilled Trades program
Technical Skills
- Basic understanding of construction drawings and plans (preferred but not required).
- Comfortable with Microsoft Excel and digital software tools.
- Strong attention to detail and organization.
