Position Summary

We are seeking a compassionate, collaborative, and experienced Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) to provide high-quality psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and follow-up care for adults in an outpatient behavioral health setting.

Our practice serves individuals with mild to moderate mental health conditions in a supportive, low-acuity environment. This role is ideal for a clinician who values patient-centered care, evidence-based practice, and flexible scheduling while maintaining autonomy as an independent contractor.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and diagnostic assessments.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on evidence-based practices.
  • Prescribe, monitor, and manage psychiatric medications within scope of practice.
  • Provide ongoing medication management and follow-up appointments.
  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, medications, and expected outcomes.
  • Collaborate with therapists, primary care providers, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and compliant electronic health record (EHR) documentation.
  • Monitor treatment progress and adjust care plans as clinically indicated.
  • Identify patients requiring a higher level of care and facilitate appropriate referrals.
  • Adhere to all federal, state, and professional regulatory standards, including HIPAA compliance.

*This position does not routinely involve management of psychiatric emergencies, inpatient care, or high-acuity crisis stabilization.

Qualifications

Required

  • Current, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in the state of practice.
  • Board Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC).
  • DEA registration with prescriptive authority.
  • Current National Provider Identifier (NPI).
  • Professional liability (malpractice) insurance.
  • Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR).

Preferred

  • Two or more years of outpatient psychiatric experience.
  • For new graduates supervision may be provided
  • Experience providing telepsychiatry services.
  • Experience treating adolescents and adults.
  • Familiarity with measurement-based care and evidence-based prescribing practices.

Compensation

  • Competitive fee-for-service or percentage-based compensation.
  • Flexible scheduling with the ability to determine availability.
  • Administrative support for scheduling, billing, and patient intake (if applicable).
  • Opportunities for both in-person and telehealth services.
  • Weekly case reviews and mentorship available when needed

Independent Contractor Status

This position is offered as an independent contractor (1099) arrangement. Contractors maintain control over their schedules, are responsible for their own taxes and benefits, and must maintain all required professional licensure, certifications, malpractice insurance, and regulatory compliance.
