The Royal Gorge Route Railroad is a premiere scenic destination that hosts more than 125,000 guests annually on a 24-mile round-trip train ride through the majestic Royal Gorge. The train is located 45-minutes southwest of Colorado Springs, in Cañon City, Colorado and is considered one of the top scenic trains in the nation and is the Royal Gorge Region’s number one destination attraction.
The train, which was resurrected in 1999 by the former owners of the Georgetown Loop Railroad, has been successful by developing a variety of classes of service and price points, which captures much of the tourism market available in the Royal Gorge Region. It’s like no other scenic line in Colorado, because guest satisfaction is paramount and second only to safety. Quality food, outstanding service, and the spectacular scenery of the Royal Gorge also put this scenic railroad in a class by itself. The Royal Gorge Route is owned and operated by a private Colorado Corporation and has been led by hands-on owners and a working management team.

This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: benefits facilitations, associate relations, talent development, performance management, onboarding orientation, policy implementation, recruitment/employment, affirmative action and employment law compliance.
Assists leadership with recruitment, hiring, staffing, development, succession planning, scheduling, etc. and provides guidance on execution of company HR programs and initiatives.
Develops, communicates, and implements HR practices and action plans to meet business needs by collaborating with managers, co-workers, customers, and other business partners.
Supports and advocates for associates by modeling Royal Gorge Route Railroad core values.
Models compliance with company policies and procedures and supports company standards of ethics and integrity by incorporating these into the development and implementation of business plans; using the Open-Door Policy, and demonstrating and assisting others with how to apply these in executing business processes and practices.
Demonstrates up-to-date expertise and applies this to the development, execution, and improvement of action plans by providing expert advice and guidance to others in the application of information and best practices.
Job requirements:
General knowledge of employment laws and practices.
- Experience in the administration of benefits and compensation programs and other Human Resources programs.
- Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment. Must include Excel and demonstrated skills in database management and record keeping.
- Effective oral and written communication.
- Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills.
- Evidence of the practice of a high level of confidentiality.
- Excellent organizational skills.

QUALIFICATIONS
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 2 – 3 years HR experience, including employee relations, leave administration and recruiting
- Demonstrated experience coordinating benefits and leave programs
- Demonstrated experience innovating and improving programs and processes
- Knowledge of state and federal HR laws and regulations
- Possess strong organizational/time management skills
- Possess ability to pay attention to details and focus on accuracy
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, environment handling multiple assignments
- Must be able to handle confidential matters and communicate in a professional and tactful manner

About the Royal Gorge Route Railroad
The Royal Gorge Route Railroad is America’s most spectacular scenic rail journey and Colorado’s most breathtaking rolling restaurant. This is a a spectacular train ride through the Colorado Rockies where we combine stunning scenery and exceptional service with delicious food, sourced locally and prepared fresh right on board the train for breakfast, lunch, afternoon and dinner. The Royal Gorge Route Railroad offers daily departures at 9:15 am, 12:30 pm, and 3:30 pm, with 6:30 pm departures on weekends.
