Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our Engineering Department, including Mechanical Engineers, drafting resources, and Engineering Administration. This role combines technical leadership, hands-on engineering, and project management, with a strong focus on new product development and custom product solutions. The Engineering Manager ensures that all designs, documentation, and engineering processes meet company standards for quality, accuracy, manufacturability, and efficiency, while supporting cross-functional teams and driving on-time delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing engineering team
- Set goals, manage performance, and support employee growth
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Partner with HR on hiring, onboarding, and team development
Product Design & Engineering
- Oversee and contribute to product design, customization, and new product development
- Review and approve designs, drawings, and BOMs
- Ensure designs meet performance, safety, and manufacturability standards
- Guide feasibility assessments for new and custom products
Engineering Processes & Data Management
- Own engineering standards, documentation practices, and data integrity
- Manage engineering change processes (ECR/ECO), revision control, and BOM accuracy
- Ensure proper integration of engineering data into ERP systems (Dynamics GP preferred)
- Maintain organized file structures and controlled engineering documentation
Project Management
- Lead new product development (NPD) projects from concept through production
- Define timelines, deliverables, and milestones
- Coordinate cross-functionally with Sales, Production, Materials, and Quality
- Identify risks and ensure timely, high-quality project completion
Technical & Cross-Functional Support
- Provide engineering support across Production, Quality, Materials, and Customer Service
- Troubleshoot manufacturing issues and support corrective actions
- Collaborate on product improvements and continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications
Required
- Proven experience leading technical or engineering teams
- Strong mechanical engineering background and 3D design expertise
- Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks (modeling, assemblies, drawings)
- Experience with BOM structures, engineering documentation, and data systems
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, made-to-order manufacturing environment
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5 years of manufacturing engineering experience, including leadership
- Experience with ERP systems (Dynamics GP preferred)
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes (welding, sheet metal, plastics, assembly)
- Familiarity with PDM systems and engineering change management
- Experience with fabricated products, material handling, or similar industries
Tools & Systems
- SolidWorks (required); SolidWorks PDM (preferred)
- Microsoft Dynamics GP or similar ERP systems
- Microsoft Office, Smartsheet, or project management tools
