Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant / Tax Return Preparer to join our team. This dual-role position is perfect for someone who enjoys the balance of monthly financial maintenance and the fast-paced nature of tax season. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records for a diverse portfolio of clients while ensuring all tax filings are precise, compliant, and submitted on time.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Preparation & Compliance
Prepare federal and state income tax returns for individuals (1040), S-Corps (1120-S), Partnerships (1065), and C-Corps (1120).
Perform tax research to resolve complex filing positions and stay updated on ever-changing tax laws.
Assist in the preparation of quarterly estimated tax payments and year-end tax planning.
Respond to IRS and state tax notices on behalf of clients.
General Accounting & Bookkeeping
Manage full-cycle monthly accounting for clients, including bank reconciliations and journal entries.
Prepare financial statements (Balance Sheets, Income Statements) and provide brief analytical overviews to management.
Process payroll, sales tax filings, and 1099/W-2 reporting.
Collaborate with clients to clean up "messy" books and improve their internal accounting processes.
Qualifications & Skills
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
Experience: 2 years of experience in accounting or a dual accounting/tax role preferred
Technical Savvy: Proficiency in tax software (e.g., ATX, UltraTax, Drake, or ProConnect) and accounting software (QuickBooks Online/Desktop or Xero).
Commitment to Accuracy: Exceptional attention to detail and a high level of precision in data entry and financial analysis.
Communication: Ability to explain complex tax concepts to clients in "plain English."
Credentials: CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) license is a major plus (or actively pursuing).
