Job Title: Moulder Operator

Job Overview:
The Moulder Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining industrial molding machines used in the manufacturing of wood products, such as trim, moldings, cabinetry components, and other custom wood profiles. This role involves setting up the molder machines, ensuring they operate efficiently, monitoring the quality of output, and troubleshooting any issues that arise during production.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Machine Setup and Operation
  • Set up and operate molder machines to produce wood products, including trims, moldings, and panels according to specified dimensions and quality standards.
  • Adjust machine settings (speed, pressure, temperature, and tooling) to achieve desired results and product specifications.
  • Load raw materials (wood or composite materials) into the molder machines and secure them properly for processing.
  • Monitoring and Quality Control
  • Continuously monitor the molder machine during operation to ensure it runs smoothly and produces quality parts.
  • Inspect and measure finished products to ensure they meet the required specifications for dimension, shape, and finish.
  • Perform routine checks on wood materials for defects, ensuring that only high-quality materials are processed.
  • Maintenance and Troubleshooting
  • Perform regular maintenance tasks on the molder machines, including cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn parts.
  • Troubleshoot any machine issues, such as misalignments, motor failures, or incorrect settings, and address them quickly to minimize downtime.
  • Ensure machines are operating within safety guidelines and conduct safety checks before starting each shift.
  • Material Handling and Safety
  • Safely handle and transport raw materials and finished products within the workshop or factory floor.
  • Follow all safety protocols, including wearing protective gear and maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
  • Report any safety hazards or concerns to the supervisor or safety manager immediately.
  • Record-Keeping and Documentation
  • Maintain accurate records of machine settings, production rates, and maintenance activities.
  • Document any issues that arise during production, along with the corrective actions taken, for quality control and process improvement purposes.
  • Track material usage and report any discrepancies or inefficiencies.
  • Collaboration and Communication
  • Work closely with other operators, supervisors, and production teams to ensure smooth workflow and meet production targets.
  • Communicate effectively with team members to report any issues, delays, or quality concerns.
  • Participate in team meetings to discuss production goals, safety issues, or new process implementations.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • High School Diploma or GED (required).
  • Technical certification or vocational training in woodworking, machine operation, or related field (preferred).
  • Experience:
  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience operating molder machines in a wood processing or manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with woodworking tools, machines, and materials.
  • Experience with various types of wood or composite materials (hardwoods, softwoods, MDF, etc.) is a plus.
  • Skills & Competencies:
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and product specifications.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on producing high-quality finished products.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols related to machinery and equipment.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.

Desirable Skills:

  • Previous experience with CNC routers or other advanced woodworking machinery.
  • Ability to perform basic machine programming or adjustments.
  • Knowledge of different molding profiles and their applications in woodworking projects.
  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement processes.

Work Environment:

  • The role is based in a manufacturing facility with a noisy, fast-paced environment.
  • Requires standing for long periods, lifting heavy materials, and working with machinery.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots is mandatory.
