Job Description
The Insurance Coordinator is responsible for supporting the day-to-day insurance operations of the practice, coordinating with patients and insurance providers as needed. The Insurance Coordinator manages verification of insurance benefits, claims submission, and follow-up for reconstructive and medically necessary procedures, ensuring accuracy and clear communication. The Insurance Coordinator should be a reliable, proactive, and positive individual who thrives in a team-oriented environment.
Responsibilities:
- Answer patient or insurance phone calls in a friendly, positive and professional manner while always providing superior customer service.
- Focus on the patient/Insurance requests by following through on them until they are resolved to the patients’ satisfaction and within the insurance guidelines.
- Generate and submit necessary pre-authorization and referrals.
- Submit and track insurance claims for reconstructive and medically necessary procedures
- Stay current on payer policy changes affecting plastic and reconstructive surgery coverage.
- Communicate with patients regarding insurance concerns.
- Document issues and follow up on responses from all the teams in a timely manner.
- Reviews explanations of benefits for payment accuracy, denials, and appeals.
- Analyzes and maintains reports to ensure timely submission of claims. * Identifies problem accounts requiring further work.
- Provide information to insurance carriers or patients regarding patient accounts.
- Obtain insurance GAP's and LOA's.
- Coordinate with the Authorization Supervisor on cases requiring prior authorization
- Maintain accurate documentation of all insurance communications in the practice management system
- Submit authorizations for all surgeons.
- Comply with HIPAA regulations.
- Check patients insurance eligibility.
- Provide information to insurance carriers or patients regarding patient accounts.
- Become acquainted with the treatments offered by the practice.
- Patient Customer Service.
Education and Experience:
Required
• High school diploma or equivalent
• 2 years of medical insurance verification and claims experience
• Solid knowledge of insurance terminology, EOBs, and claims processes
Preferred
• Experience in plastic or reconstructive surgery
• Working knowledge of CPT/ICD-10 coding
• Experience working directly with major commercial payers
