Summary: The Spanish Coach is a full-time position that reports to the school
principal. The Spanish Coach is a key member of the administrative team.
Responsibilities include DL/I program oversight, curriculum support, and
coaching feedback to improve onboarding experiences of international teachers
and ensure teachers have the resources and skills necessary to teach NCSCOS
objectives and provide research-based language immersion strategies.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:


Support DL/I Staff Onboarding


? Work closely with the Participate Program Manager to coordinate the onboarding
of staff.

? This includes assessing housing needs and logistics (i.e. housewarming
items, safe apartments, car dealerships referrals, DMV).
? Make sure new staff understand initial financial expectations (payroll
schedule, deposit and first month rent, housing, transportation, etc.).
? Plan an opening celebration to welcome new staff and their families to
your school community. Include some housewarming gifts or gift cards
(household items for the kitchen or bathroom).
? Have mentors or other staff members drive new staff around town to find
the school, banks, DMV, and/or Hispanic stores.


? Work with PTA to collect gently used furniture, kitchen items, and gift cards.


? Host a classroom set up party to help new staff prepare and arrange their rooms
before Open House.


? Develop expectations and a schedule for coaching and professional development
offerings.


Curriculum & Pedagogy Support


? Create a schedule for the new staff to conduct peer observations within the first
two weeks of school focused on effective classroom management techniques.


? Explain, model, coach, and support effective classroom management techniques.


? Explain the format and expectations for lesson plans and active PLC
participation.


? Provide a Dual Language 101 Overview to share research and best practices
(i.e. anchor charts, sentence starters/frames, Total Physical Response, Turn and
Talk, cooperative learning, The Bridge, and cultural connections).


? Explain the various assessment tools, platforms, and data analysis protocols.


? Demonstrate the use of classroom technology (i.e. Promethean Boards, district
resources).


? Guide teachers as they learn to unpack NCSCOS, curriculum resources, and
lesson planning.


Coaching and Feedback


? Provide teachers with guidance, recommendations, and a script for effectively
communicating with parents.


? Allow new staff to visit and observe experienced DL/I teachers throughout the
year.


? Visits DL/I class each week to provide targeted feedback and suggestions. Utilize
whisper coaching and modeling when appropriate.


? Co-facilitate PLCs with the literacy and math coach for content taught in Spanish.


Administrative Responsibilities


? Coordinate outreach and school tours for prospective families.


? Translate school newsletters and verbal messages.


? Host parent informational sessions.


? Stay abreast of DL/I information and resources (NCDPI, CAL, FLANC, SCOLT,
etc.)

? Coordinate the administration of language assessments and data analysis.


? Review and recommend curriculum resources.


? Keep the administrative team abreast of strengths and needs of the program.


Other


? Other responsibilities as assigned by the principal based on data and program
needs


Experience, Knowledge, & Skills Preferred:


? Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal skills in English and Spanish


? K-6 teaching license


? Master’s degree in curriculum and instruction


? Minimum of three years of successful experience teaching


? Experience teaching in a DL/I program


? Experience teaching in multiple grade levels and across content areas


? Experience as a mentor, lead teacher, grade level chairperson, facilitator, or
coach


? Willingness to take initiative and work proactively


? Detail-oriented, able to meet deadlines and manage multiple assignments
simultaneously


? Ability to receive input and constructive feedback to grow as an instructional
coach
