JOB SUMMARY:
Assists in examination and treatment of patients.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Triage patient phone calls, portal messages, and walk-in concerns according to established clinical protocols.
- Obtain and document patient history, chief complaints, allergies, medications, and vital signs.
- Recognize urgent or emergent symptoms and promptly notify the provider or direct patients to the appropriate level of care.
- Schedule same-day or follow-up appointments based on clinical need.
- Assist providers with examinations, procedures, and treatments.
- Administer medications, injections, immunizations, and perform point-of-care testing as permitted by state regulations and organizational policy.
- Prepare exam rooms and maintain adequate medical supplies and equipment.
- Process prescription refill requests according to provider protocols.
- Coordinate referrals, diagnostic testing, and follow-up care.
- Educate patients on medications, treatment plans, preventive care, and chronic disease management.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, infection prevention standards, and organizational policies.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and support patient-centered care.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum Job Qualifications:
- Successful completion of a Medical Assistant program from an accredited institution.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Proficiency in taking vital signs, administering injections, and performing phlebotomy.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality.
Education: High School diploma – required and Associate’s degree - preferred.
License/Certifications: Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA or CCMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification required.
Language Skills: English proficient required
