What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building Inspector position at Rowan County Fiscal Court?
Rowan County Fiscal Court is hiring for a full time Building Inspector within our Planning Department. Starting salary dependent on experience and certification level.
This position reports directly to the County Judge-Executive and consists of reviewing plans and specifications to assure conformity to applicable codes, issuing permits, inspecting the construction, addition and/or alterations of commercial and residential buildings to determine compliance of approved plans and specifications with the applicable code.
Applicant must have strong communication skills and a positive, solution-oriented attitude.
Major Essential Duties
· Examine building plans and document’s to assure design is in conformity to applicable codes
· Performs building inspection and enforcement activities on construction of commercial and residential structures to assure the work is in compliance with the approved plans and the applicable codes.
· Performs emergency structural inspections to ensure structural integrity, and public or occupants’ safety
· Monitor for unreported construction starts and follows up on stop work orders
· Enforces county ordinances relating to building codes and subdivision regulations
· Ability to communicate with builders, architects, lawyers and others concerning interpretation and compliance of the building code, violations and corrective action, or any related matters
· Examine building plans to familiarize, inform, and prepare for job site inspection and what codes may apply
· Reads and interprets technical building construction data such as engineering test reports, soil tests, slump tests on concrete, stress/strength tests, or manufacturers’ pamphlets
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience
Graduated from high school or earned a general education diploma, and
- Two years experience in a responsible, directly related construction position, such as a foreman, which required the ability to effectively read and interpret building plans and specifications; or
- Two years experience in an architect's or engineer's office performing building design or drafting duties; or
- Graduated from a college or university with an associate degree in a design or construction related subject; or
- Graduated from a college or university with a bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, fire science or building technology.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
· Possesses, or has the ability to obtain, certification as a minimum Level I Building Inspector from the Kentucky Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction within 3 months of hire.
· Possesses a Commonwealth of Kentucky motor vehicle operator’s license.
