Adjunct Instructor - Construction Trades

Description

Adjunct instructors are responsible for creating a positive learning and classroom teaching environment in accordance with the College's goals, core values, core competencies, program outcomes, and course outcomes. The role of the adjunct faculty member is grounded in teaching effectiveness.

Adjunct Instructors are needed in the following areas:

• Carpentry
• Electrical
• Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC)
• Plumbing
• Welding and Fabrication

Applicants selected for an interview are required to present a teaching demonstration.

Examples of Duties

1. Facilitate student learning by meeting with and teaching assigned classes in accordance with the college academic calendar and approved syllabi.
2. Promote and support the value of diversity and cultural sensitivity in all aspects of learning and teaching.
3. Coordinated class schedules for day and evening sessions in alignment with RCSJ course offerings
4. Maintain current knowledge in the subjects taught and recommend curricular modifications accordingly.
5. Use regular and occasional assessment data to monitor student learning and adjust teaching methods, accommodating student learning styles and helping them achieve course outcomes.
6. Maintain a working knowledge of the technology necessary for the subjects taught and for other college requirements.
7. Maintain and report accurate attendance and scholastic records of students.
8. Maintain licenses and certificates required for employment eligibility.
9. Participate in approved professional development activities for increasing professional competence in assigned areas of responsibility.

Minimum Qualifications

• A Degree or Diploma in a related Construction/Utility field, a Vocational or Technical Certification in a related field, or a valid credential, or significant work experience in the field required; an Associate's degree from an accredited institution is preferred.
• A minimum of 3 years of practical and Industry Experience – Extensive hands-on experience in residential, commercial, and industrial, with expertise in blueprint reading, project estimation, and construction management.
• Demonstrated command of the discipline or field of study
• OSHA 10 Certification (Current or obtained within first 3 months of hire)
• NCCER Credentials (Current or obtained within first 3 months of hire)
• Thorough knowledge of the related Construction/Utility field codes and regulations and OSHA safety standards, ensuring compliance and best practices in the related field of safety and installation.
• Tool & Equipment Mastery – Expertise in using hand tools, power tools, and woodworking machinery.
• Excellent communication, organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and other software applications.
• Experience teaching adult learners preferred
• Ability to work a flexible schedule with varied hours to meet department and College needs.
• Ability to work with discretion, maintain confidentiality, and exercise sound independent judgment
• Possess the ability to work well and communicate effectively with prospective and current students, staff, faculty, administration, colleagues, and community partners.

• The standard rate is $900.00 per contact hour. The rate will vary for independent study courses.
