The Routt County Humane Society Wellness Clinic is seeking a veterinarian to join our dynamic team. Located in beautiful Steamboat Springs, Colorado, we provide high-quality medical care to shelter and community animals.
Job Summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a veterinarian to work in a fast-paced environment where every day provides new experiences and challenges. As a key member of our Shelter administrative team, you will oversee the veterinary operations and supervise part-time veterinarians and veterinary technicians.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide exceptional veterinary care for homeless and owned pets, including exams, diagnostics, treatment plans, surgeries, and euthanasia.
- Oversee all aspects of the shelter and community veterinary program, collaborating with staff to optimize service delivery.
- Perform high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter surgeries, dentistry, and soft tissue procedures.
- Ensure compliance with state regulations and organizational protocols for animal care, treatment, and advocacy.
- Maintain licensing, complete continuing education, and uphold DEA, DORA, and PACFA regulations.
- Manage drug and supply inventory to meet legal and operational requirements.
- Communicate effectively with staff through meetings, written updates, and daily coordination.
- Help organize and participate in mobile clinic events, including some weekends.
Qualifications
- Licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Colorado (or able to obtain licensure promptly).
- Minimum one year of experience in a shelter setting with high-quality, high-volume surgical experience.
- Eligible to obtain and maintain a DEA license.
- Strong knowledge of population health management, disease prevention, and epidemiology.
- Excellent decision-making, diagnostic, and resourceful treatment skills.
- Strong communication, leadership, and team-building abilities.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus (includes wage premium).
- Ability to create a positive work environment and hold staff accountable.
- Serve as the radiation officer as required by Colorado regulations.
- Familiarity with standard veterinary medical equipment.
