What are the responsibilities and job description for the Attorney position at Rourke Law?
ROURKE LAW
ROURKE COLLIER LAW
Liberty Ellenville Walton, NY
“Good Counsel by Good People”
ATTORNEY — GENERAL PRACTICE
Partnership Track Full-Time/Hybrid Catskills / Upper Delaware Region
Why This Role Is Different
We’re not just hiring an attorney — we are identifying a seasoned practitioner who is ready to step into firm leadership and help guide the continued growth of the Rourke Law. We are not just hiring for today, but for the future. This individual will one day help lead all offices under the Rourke name.
If you have built a strong practice, or wish to join a stable, family-first platform, with real leadership potential and a stake in a 70-year legacy — this opportunity is for you.
About Rourke Law
For over 70 years, Rourke Law has served The Catskills, the Upper Delaware River Valley, and the Mid-Hudson region from offices in Liberty, Ellenville, and Walton, NY. We combine large-firm expertise with the warmth of a community practice. Our motto — “Good Counsel by Good People” — is not marketing. It is how we show up for clients and for each other, every single day.
The Role
This is a full-time, and potentially hybrid role for the right candidate. This position is key to growing our general practice with a clear, structured path toward firm-wide leadership across all three Rourke Law offices. Day-to-day, you will advise clients, manage a diverse caseload, draft and negotiate legal documents, and represent clients in proceedings — across real estate, estate planning and administration, litigation, municipal and corporate law. Experience with criminal law and vehicle and traffic, not a requirement but is a plus.
Over time, as trust and experience grow, you will take on increasing responsibility and contribute to managing the firm’s day-to-day operations, culture, and growth across all three offices — allowing firm leadership to remain focused on vision, client relationships, and the continued growth.
Who We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate is both a skilled practitioner and a future firm leader. At Rourke Law, we are looking for someone who brings:
- Entrepreneurial drive— someone who cultivates their own client relationships and contributes actively to practice growth, not just manages existing files.
- Genuine community identity — at home in Sullivan, Ulster, and Delaware counties, and invested in being a pillar of the communities we serve.
- Compassionate client focus — the ability to guide clients through high-stress life transitions with warmth and clarity.
- Breadth across cornerstone practice areas —with comfort in the courtroom and the conference room alike.
- Culture compatibility — family-friendly values, work/life balance, and a belief that “Good Counsel by Good People” is not a tagline, but a standard.
- Legacy-builder mindset — the right person will have a genuine interest and want to help shape where Rourke Law expands and grows in the future.
- Independence — an initiative-taker who takes ownership of assigned matters and delivers consistent, high-quality work. This person can work independently, providing sound legal judgment autonomously within firm standards.
- Collaboration— be independent but collaborate effectively with management and staff.
Qualifications
- JD from an accredited law school and active admission to the New York State Bar — required.
- 3-5 years of experience preferred but not required.
- Solid practical experience in real estate, estate planning, corporate law, or litigation; breadth across practice areas is a strong plus.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple clients matters simultaneously in a fast-paced, high-standard environment.
- Strong research, drafting, and negotiation skills paired with genuine care for the people you represent.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; comfortable working directly with a wide range of clients.
- An entrepreneurial mindset — someone who wants to help build something, not just fill a role.
