DESCRIPTION
Roundabout Theatre, which operates five theatres, is seeking a General Manager to join the team of general managers and company managers under the leadership of the Executive Producer. The General Manager will oversee Roundabout productions, translating creative vision and institutional goals and objectives into actionable plans. This role oversees budgeting, scheduling, hiring, and day-to-day logistics and coordination to ensure the production runs efficiently, on time, within financial constraints and maintaining all of Roundabout's culture and engagement priorities. The General Manager works closely with the executive leadership, directors, designers, and department heads to maintain alignment across all aspects of the production and how it relates to the institution at large.
This is some of what the General Manager will do:
- Develop and manage production budgets, ensuring financial efficiency
- Create and maintain detailed production timelines and schedules
- Oversee hiring processes for creative teams, performers, production staff and crew
- Manage personnel, including contracts, payroll coordination, and workplace logistics
- Negotiate contracts with vendors, unions, and creative personnel
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, including union regulations and prevailing rates
- Facilitate communication across departments to maintain alignment and progress
- Monitor production milestones and proactively address challenges
- Provide solutions to budgetary or scheduling conflicts while maintaining production quality
- Coordinate with operations department and house management staff about all building/facility issues
- Coordinate with external press agency for all promotional and press events
This is some of what the General Manager should bring:
- 3–5 years of experience as a General Manager in a large not-for-profit or commercial Broadway or off-Broadway theatre
- Superb organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task effectively
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Promote an environment that fosters inclusive relationships both within the General Management team and our creative teams, performers, production staff and crew
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong problem-solving mindset with a focus on practical solutions
- Confidence in making difficult decisions and delivering critical feedback
- Must be service and team oriented, enthusiastic, and self-motivated
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
General Managers typically work from an office in Roundabout's administrative offices as well as an office at the theatre. The General Managers make frequent visits to rehearsal spaces and performance venues running or attending regular production and department meetings and having hands-on involvement in rehearsals and technical processes.
Schedules may include evenings and weekends, especially during rehearsal and performance periods.
The salary is $125,000–$175,000 annually. This is a full-time position with the standard Roundabout benefits package that includes medical plan, dental, vision, 401k with 5% employer contribution, PTO, LTD, and life insurance.
