PART I: SUMMARY OF POSITION
Under the supervision of the Director of Transportation, the Bus Driver Trainer position will provide classroom instruction and behind the wheel training of new driver applicants. Develop and maintain an ongoing school bus training and safety program using methods approved by The Illinois Professional School Bus Training Curriculum.

PART II: MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma
- 5 years' experience as a bus driver or trainer
- No preventable accidents or moving violations for the previous 3 years
- CREDENTIALS:
- Possession of current Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a passenger and air brake endorsement required.
- Able to pass random (federally mandated) drug screenings to maintain Class B endorsement
- Proficient in basic computer skills
- Summer hours required
- Ability to work during school breaks as needed for training requirements
- Good attendance record
- KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to drive buses of varying sizes. (Ex. wheelchair buses).
- Record of safe driving habits and practices.
- Techniques and strategies for the training of school bus drivers.
- Knowledge of the IL State Motor Vehicle Code and applicable laws to the operation of vehicles in the transportation of students and in training of school bus drivers.
- Principles and procedures of preventative maintenance related to school bus, vehicles, and student equipment.
- Prepare and maintain accurate and complete training records.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others.
- Ability to complete necessary written reports in a timely manner.

- Coordinate training program in accordance with the Illinois School Bus Training Curriculum.
- Maintains professional behavior, appearance, and work ethic to represent school district at all times.
- Develop a New Employee Orientation for drivers.
- Research and communicate new or revised laws related to safety and/or busing to drivers.
- Schedules, instructs, and trains drivers in a safe operation of District school buses according to State, Federal, and District policies, codes, and regulations.
- Provides behind the wheel and classroom instruction required for beginning drivers that includes instruction in certification, vehicle components, first aid, emergency procedures, driving fundamentals, defensive driving, and student management.
- Establishes and maintains precise records of training and evaluations.
- Maintains and updates driver files regularly.
- Must maintain confidentiality.
- Performs other duties related to the position as assigned by the Director of Transportation.
