A well-established rotating equipment field service company with over 27 years of industry experience is seeking an experienced Machine Shop Supervisor to lead our shop operations in Anchorage, Alaska. This role is responsible for directing daily shop production, supervising skilled trades personnel, and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
This is a hands-on leadership position overseeing machinists, welders, fabricators, and field service technicians. The supervisor will set the standard for performance, safety, accountability, and quality while coordinating closely with field service teams and customers across Alaska’s industrial sectors including oil & gas, mining, marine, utilities, and heavy equipment repair.
This role requires on-site leadership and direct interaction with technicians, equipment, and active projects. This position cannot be performed remotely.
Position Summary
The Machine Shop Supervisor is responsible for leading shop personnel, managing workflow, and ensuring projects move efficiently from planning to completion. This role requires strong technical knowledge, clear leadership, and the ability to manage multiple jobs while maintaining high productivity and safety standards.
The successful candidate will bring proven experience supervising employees, a strong background in welding and machining environments, and the ability to lead skilled trades teams in a fast-paced industrial setting supporting Alaska’s energy, marine, construction, and heavy industry markets.
Leadership Responsibilities
· Directly supervise machinists, welders, fabricators, and field service technicians
· Set clear expectations for safety, quality, productivity, and professionalism
· Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and performance feedback to shop personnel
· Plan daily and weekly shop schedules to ensure efficient use of labor and equipment
· Ensure jobs are staffed appropriately and completed on time
· Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork within the shop
· Resolve technical and operational issues that arise during projects
· Hold employees accountable to company standards and production expectations
· Train and mentor shop employees to strengthen technical skills and team capability
Operational Responsibilities
· Coordinate machine shop workflow and field service support
· Support repair and rebuild work for pumps, compressors, motors, gearboxes, and rotating equipment
· Review project requirements and ensure work is executed accurately
· Assist with job planning, estimating, and resource allocation
· Coordinate parts, materials, and equipment needed for projects
· Support troubleshooting and technical problem solving on complex industrial equipment
· Monitor shop productivity and identify opportunities for operational improvement
· Ensure compliance with safety procedures and company standards
· Support job tracking, reporting, and coordination with accounting for job closeout
Required Qualifications
· Previous experience supervising employees in a machine shop or industrial environment (required)
· Hands-on manual machining on lathes and mills (required)
· Strong knowledge of machining processes and machine shop operations
· Hands-on welding experience (required)
· Welding certification strongly preferred
· Experience working with industrial or rotating equipment
· Demonstrated leadership ability managing skilled trades teams
· Strong communication, organization, and decision-making skills
· Computer literacy and ability to work with job tracking or shop management systems
Preferred Experience
· Machinist background or hands-on machining experience
· Certified welder
· Field service or industrial repair experience
· Experience supporting Alaska industries such as oil & gas, marine, mining, construction, or utilities
· Experience with pumps, compressors, turbines, motors, or other rotating equipment
· Experience with job costing, scheduling, and shop productivity management
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $110,000 annually based on a 50-hour work week
