Critical Care Nurse Responsibilities Include
- Advanced Assessment of a patient’s condition and planning and implementing patient care plans.
- Providing advanced life support including ventilator support; Assisting physicians in performing procedures.
- Observing and recording patient vital signs as well as intake and outputs every one (1) hour.
- Ensuring that ventilators, monitors and other types of medical equipment function properly.
- Administering continuous vasoactive and cardiac medications; Ordering diagnostic tests.
- Collaborating with fellow members of the critical care team; Provide care using nursing standards and Hospital/ICU protocols for treatment.
- Acting as patient advocates; Providing education and support to patient families.
- Caring for both medical and surgical patients; Providing care to the immediate post-operative patient.
- Responding to Rapid Responses and medical emergencies throughout the medical campus.
- Being part of end of life conversations as well as collaborating with the Palliative Care and Hospice teams.
- Providing CRRT therapy.

Required Education and Experience
License Requirement
License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York.
Education and Experience
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and the equivalent of one (1) year of full-time oncology nursing experience; or
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and the equivalent of one (1) year of full-time critical care experience; or
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and the equivalent of two (2) years of full-time medical-surgical experience in an acute care setting; or
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing, the equivalent of one (1) year of full-time medical-surgical experience in an acute care setting and completion of Roswell Park nursing orientation with the ability to function independently at a satisfactory level for three (3) months (full-time) as a Nurse I at Roswell Park.
- Incumbents will serve a one (1) year full-time probationary period as a Nurse II.
- Degrees must be conferred by an accredited school, college, or university, or by an institution recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and/or Health Research Incorporated as adhering to acceptable educational standards.
