About the Role

The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center is seeking a Clinical Instructor in Surgical Pathology — a physician at a pivotal stage in their career who is eager to deepen diagnostic expertise while helping shape the next generation of pathologists. This position will begin as a Clinical Fellow and, following a defined evaluation period and successful approval, will transition to Clinical Instructor within the Anatomic Pathology service.

Designed as a purposeful bridge to faculty, this role offers a structured pathway for highly skilled senior fellows seeking to advance into academic pathology. The successful candidate will balance high-level diagnostic practice with meaningful educational engagement in a collaborative, mission-driven environment dedicated to excellence in cancer care, research, and medical education.

What You’ll Do

  • Review and sign out surgical pathology cases across subspecialties such as Breast/GYN or Gastrointestinal Pathology
  • Deliver high-quality diagnostic expertise in collaboration with multidisciplinary clinical teams
  • Teach and mentor medical students, residents, and fellows through lectures, case-based learning, and hands-on supervision
  • Participate in multidisciplinary conferences, departmental grand rounds, and trainee educational forums
  • Support curriculum development, trainee evaluation, and continuous improvement initiatives within the Pathology residency program
  • Develop increasing autonomy in diagnostic sign-out responsibilities within a supportive academic framework
  • Refine proficiency in gross examination and specimen evaluation
  • Contribute to institutional committees, quality initiatives, and educational program development
  • Engage in self-directed scholarly and professional development activities
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, academic rigor, compassion, and excellence aligned with High Reliability Organization principles

Schedule & Call Responsibilities

  • Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, with flexibility based on clinical and educational responsibilities
  • Rotating weeknight and weekend call responsibilities initiated following approximately six months of training and attainment of privileges
  • Ongoing support and collaboration with attending pathologists throughout the training and transition process
