POSITION SUMMARY: The Clinical Nurse Educator is responsible for providing clinical educational programs. This includes evaluating the educational needs of our organization to enhance clinical competencies and serving as a resource to plan and implement programs to meet these needs.
- The Clinical Nurse Educator may have expertise in a specific area, such as wound care, MDS, social services, infusion, or infection control. S/he will use this specialty focus to support organizational goals.
- Assess clinical capabilities and educational needs, and provide consistent, quality clinical training and education.
- Present clinical educational programs in response to assessed staff needs.
- Assist centers to implement clinical orientation programs to prepare newly hired staff to meet the needs of the changing population.
- Participate with Director of Nursing and Administrator in orienting and mentoring.
- Collaborate with management team to determine specific needs.
- Collaborate with Area VP/Director of Quality to monitor area and center outcomes to identify patterns/trends, and to intervene appropriately.
- Provide Center review and evaluation of processes as indicated/requested.
- Support Managers, Clinical Operations by Assisting with clinical programs in area of expertise/specialty focus.
- Providing written and verbal communication of observations and results of education needs and program attendance of center staff.
- Provide opportunities for Center staff to obtain or maintain clinical competencies.
- Other tasks as assigned by DON/Administrator.
- RN or bachelor's degree preferred. LPN considered.
- Certification in specialty area preferred.
- Three years' full-time equivalent clinical experience is required.
- Previous experience in teaching adults. Ability to work with adult learners.
- Must have good verbal, communication, organizational and educational skills.
- Must have knowledge of teaching and training techniques. Must be able to present the subject matter effectively.
- Must be clinically proficient.
- Must have thorough knowledge of caring for the elderly.
- An understanding of Long-Term Care regulations, care practices, laws and guidelines is preferred.
- Must be computer proficient.
- The Clinical Educator interacts in a positive manner with Center personnel, residents, families, and visitors, as well as Recover-Care area and corporate staff, plus government agencies and the general public.
- Carries out other tasks as requested in situations where hands-on intervention or participation may be required.
