Quality Assurance Technician – Manufacturing

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Efficiently use basic and complex measurement tools to perform inspections within a high-precision CNC machining and weld fabrication environment. Self-prioritize inspection, administrative, and computer responsibilities within a fast-paced manufacturing operation. Help drive defect prevention, process improvement, and customer satisfaction while supporting the AS9100 Quality Management System.

This position is responsible for performing receiving inspections, first piece/layout inspections, in-process inspections, and final inspections of machined and fabricated components. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a CNC machine shop and be comfortable interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support effective execution of the Quality Management System in support of maintaining AS9100 certification and customer satisfaction.
  • Promote a culture of quality, accountability, and customer satisfaction throughout the organization.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, CAD prints, and manufacturing documentation, including Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Communicate with management, engineering, and production personnel to determine quality requirements and product acceptance criteria.
  • Coordinate with production personnel to perform receiving inspections, first piece/layout inspections, in-process inspections, and final inspections.
  • Perform dimensional inspections using calipers, micrometers, height gages, indicators, bore gages, thread gages, pin gages, and other precision measurement equipment.
  • Utilize Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) and related inspection software as required.
  • Evaluate material certifications (CMTRs), special process certifications, and supplier documentation for conformity to purchase order and customer requirements.
  • Identify deviations in products, processes, or documentation from established requirements and standards.
  • Recommend modifications to quality or production standards to improve quality, efficiency, and process capability.
  • Participate in measurement tool calibration, record keeping, and related training activities.
  • Perform data entry, maintain inspection records, and support analysis activities using Microsoft Word, Excel, and internal software systems.
  • Support corrective action investigations, RCA, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in internal audits, supplier audits, and quality improvement teams.
  • Proactively contribute to the company’s overall mission and quality policy through teamwork, communication, and organizational processes.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform other related duties as requested.
  • Assist with training associates in inspection techniques, blueprint reading, and GD&T as experience permits.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Technical school training, machining program completion, or Associate’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in a CNC machining, manufacturing, or quality inspection environment preferred.
  • Experience performing layout inspections, in-process inspections, and final inspections preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Competency:

  • Knowledge of precision machining processes including milling, turning, and fabrication operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Knowledge of metrology principles and inspection methods.
  • Ability to effectively use hand inspection tools and precision measurement equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret procedures, WIs, forms & records, etc.
  • Ability to write reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, coworkers, engineers, and management.
  • Ability to implement long and short-range goals while supporting organizational objectives.
  • Ability to relate to people at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Effective time management and prioritization skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to learn and utilize internal software programs and databases.

LICENSING AND CERTIFICATION:

None required. Preferred certifications include:

  • ASQ Certified Quality Technician (CQT)
  • ASQ Certified Quality Inspector (CQI)
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE)
  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

CMM, hand inspection tools and computers.
