Role Overview
The Irrigation Install Technician is responsible for the professional maintenance and repair of irrigation systems across various residential and commercial landscape projects. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Key Responsibilities
- System Maintenance: Perform comprehensive repairs and ongoing maintenance for irrigation systems to ensure optimal performance.
- Diagnostic Testing: Inspect systems to identify and resolve leaks, malfunctions, or inefficiencies.
- Technical Troubleshooting: Resolve complex issues involving electrical components, water pressure problems, and solenoid valve mechanics.
- System Programming: Program and adjust irrigation controllers and timers to meet specific seasonal watering requirements.
- Collaboration: Work alongside landscape installation crews to integrate irrigation systems seamlessly with overall landscape designs.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate daily records of work performed, including time spent and materials used.
- Compliance: Ensure all installations meet company standards, client expectations, and local regulatory requirements.
Technical Skills & Requirements
- Diagnostics: Proficient in using a Volt Ohm Meter to diagnose electrical circuit repairs and a 521 wire tracer for locating valves and identifying cut wires or bad splices.
- Component Knowledge: Extensive understanding of pipe sizes, fittings, and the operation/adjustment of various brands of valves, rotors, and spray heads.
- Field Expertise: Skilled in excavation techniques that minimize site disturbance and capable of interpreting irrigation plans or blueprints.
- Water Management: Ability to make intelligent site evaluations and suggest program adjustments to management to improve watering efficiency.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate project status effectively to clients and supervisors. Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills are a significant plus.
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in irrigation system installation and maintenance.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or irrigation certification is preferred.
- Licensing: Must possess a valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
- Technology: Basic mobile technology skills for reporting and scheduling.
- Attributes: Dependable with a consistent attendance record.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Labor: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks involving standing, walking, and kneeling for extended periods.
- Outdoor Conditions: Capability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme heat and rain.
- Travel: Extensive driving may be required; smoking is not permitted in company vehicles.
Compensation & Benefits
Pay Range: $20.00 – $27.00 per hour (based on experience).
Schedule: 10-hour shifts; overtime and weekends may be required as needed.
