Position Title: School Psychologist

Reports To: School Lead/ Principal

Location: Roseville Community Charter School

Department: Child Study Team (CST)

Employment Type: Full-Time, 10-Month Position (Aligned with the Academic Calendar)

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated, culturally responsive, and resilient School Psychologist to join our district’s Child Study Team. Operating within an urban educational environment, the ideal candidate will serve as an advocate for students, helping them overcome educational, socio-emotional, systemic, and behavioral challenges.

In this role, you will conduct psychological evaluations, manage special education caseloads, design evidence-based intervention strategies, and provide trauma-informed counseling. You will work collaboratively with educators, families, and community organizations to foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that empowers every student to succeed.

Performance Responsibilities & Essential Duties1. Child Study Team (CST) & Case Management

  • Serve as an active member of the multidisciplinary Child Study Team to evaluate, classify, and recommend placements for students in need of special education and related services.
  • Act as Case Manager for an assigned caseload of students, ensuring strict compliance with New Jersey Administrative Code (N.J.A.C. 6A:14) timelines and regulations.
  • Coordinate, write, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to student strengths and needs.
  • Maintain current records of services provided and cases assigned, with strict adherence to mandated timelines and deadlines.

2. Psychological Evaluation & Assessment

  • Select, administer, score, and interpret standardized psychological and psychoeducational assessments to evaluate cognitive, developmental, emotional, and behavioral functioning.
  • Conduct systematic classroom observations and functional behavior assessments (FBAs).
  • Compile data into comprehensive, highly articulate written psychological evaluation reports that translate clinical findings into actionable classroom accommodations.

3. Intervention & Mental Health Support

  • Deliver individual and group counseling focusing on emotional regulation, conflict resolution, trauma, and coping skills as per student IEP.
  • Design and implement Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIPs) in collaboration with teachers and administrators.
  • Provide crisis intervention, stabilization, and risk assessments (e.g., threat or self-harm assessments) as part of the school's emergency response team.
  • Provide consultation to school personnel relating to the emotional/social well being of students
  • Serve as a consultant to parents, school personnel, and community groups on child development and mental health topics
  • Maintain contacts with other professionals in the field of mental health and special education.
  • Serve as a member of the Intervention & Referral Services (I&RS) committee.

4. Consultation & System-Wide Support

  • Partner with teachers and staff to implement Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) / RTI strategies.
  • Serve as a member of the Intervention & Referral Services (I&RS) committee.
  • Consult with parents and guardians to bridge the gap between home and school, providing resources to support student development.
  • Deliver professional development and in-service training to staff on topics such as trauma-informed care, implicit bias, de-escalation, and mental health awareness.
  • Liaise with New Jersey community-based mental health clinics, social services, and care management organizations (CMOs) to secure wraparound support for high-risk scholars.
  • Communicate with and serve as members of appropriate school and community committees/agencies.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Master’s Degree, Specialist Degree (Ed.S.), or Doctorate in School Psychology from an accredited institution.
  • Certification: Valid New Jersey school psychologist certification.
  • Background Check: Required criminal history background check (fingerprinting) and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.

Preferred Skills & Core Competencies

  • Urban Education Experience: Demonstrated experience working with culturally, linguistically, and socioeconomically diverse student populations. Understanding of systemic inequities, generational poverty, and trauma-informed practices is highly preferred.
  • Legal Literacy: Strong working knowledge of federal IDEA regulations and NJ Special Education Code (N.J.A.C. 6A:14).
  • Soft Skills: Exceptional emotional intelligence, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the agility to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Performs other related duties as may be assigned by the school lead / principal or the student personnel services director

Salary and Benefits

  • Salary: Competitive,and commensurate with experience and degree level.
